Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the debate. This house
believes that the death penalty is sometimes justified. First of all, I want to
explain what death penalty is. Capital punishment, also known as the death
penalty, is a state-sanctioned practice of killing a person as a punishment for a
crime. The sentence ordering that an offender is to be punished in such a manner
is known as a death sentence, and the act of carrying out the sentence is known
as an execution. Most of the society thinks that death penalty is equivalent to
torture, but it's not true . Most countries use lethal injection, which paralyzes the
prisoners and eventually stops their heart. Even in today's life famous people such
us Barrack Obama ,Brittney Spears, Donald Trump support the death penalty. I
think that most people would agree with me that If someone murders someone
else, they have given up their human rights, including the one to stay alive
themselves. So, in this debate my colleague will talk about how most killers don't
change, the fear of the victim's families and I, as the first speaker, will start my
speech by proving that only by putting murderers to death can society ensure that
convicted killers do not kill again. A significant amount of people would say that
after prison, murderers want to start a new life, start a family, but the truth is that
most of them will kill again for example John Straffen, Graeme Burton. After
leaving prison, John Straffen killed a child and raped womens In my opinion, it is
wrong that murderers can get a second chance, but the victims will not be
resurrected, they will not have a chance to enjoy life. Why should society pity the
murderers when they ignore the pleas of their victims to let them go and not kill
them? If we leave the murderers alive, how will the victim's relatives feel,
knowing that their loved one is lying in a cold grave, and the murderer will be out
of prison and will live life to the fullest. The second aspect is that death penalty
reduces the chance of illegal escape. As a result, the rest of society will remain
safe. After the prisoners successfully escape from prison, people are very terrified,
especially the relatives of the victims, they are afraid to go out into the street in
fear of getting murdered. According to statistics, 3% of former victims or their
relatives killed themselves out of fear after the prisoners escaped, but most of the
victims want police protection to be stationed at their homes. So, Ladies and
Gentlemen, what have I told you today? According to research, a death sentence
for a murderer will deter others from committing the crime. Also, the relatives of
the victims will not only feel safer, but will also know that the offender will not
have the opportunity to enjoy life after prison, therefore, families will finally get
the peace and closure that they have been waiting for.
