Teaching Method:
Step 1:
- Students complete exercise 1 individually, matching the vocabulary to the pictures.
- Students compare their answers with a partner.
- Go through the answers and drill correct pronunciation.
- You may also want to tell students that candy is American English and sweets is British English.

Step 2:

- Students complete exercise 2 individually, matching the vocabulary to the pictures.


- Students compare their answers with a partner.
- Go through the answers and drill correct pronunciation.
- You may also want to tell students that graveyard is more commonly used in British English, while
cemetery is used in American English. There is a further difference in that a graveyard is usually on
church grounds, whereas a cemetery usually stands alone.

Step 3:

- Hand out or display the conversation cards.


- Students ask and answer the questions in pairs or small groups. For lower levels students, you may want
to check understanding and pronunciation of dress up as sth, costume, and superstitious.
- Monitor and give correction on grammar/pronunciation where required.
- Encourage them to use lots of new vocabulary.
Step 4:

- Do a feedback session with class, eliciting some answers for questions 1, 2 and 8.
- If students are unfamiliar with Halloween, prepare to tell them a little bit about how and where it is
celebrated and about its history.
