Dolce & Gabbana is an Italian brand, and as such, observes completely different calendar from the host Country, India – both religiously
and culturally. Most Indian Holidays have cultural inclinations, but majority of them are generally observed and may result to closure
of schools and shops on such days. However, for Italy, there are not much culturally related holidays, but more of religious observations
and national public holidays (Kim Ann Zimmermann, 2017). In August, for instance, there are no major holidays/celebrations in Italy
that can form a promotional basis for a targeted advert, while in India, we leveraged on the Indian Independence Day celebration to run
a promotion for Independence Sales. Being a Masculine society, Indian luxury consumers look out for opportunities and celebrations as
this to showcase their successes and achievements, hence the company records massive sales during these celebrative seasons. Marketing
promotions/brand communication cannot happen during this time in Italy because the cultural ceremonies at this time of the year
which happens to be the largest city in the country by population (Kim Ann Zimmermann, 2017). This explains why majority of the
celebrations and public holidays in Italy are religious. We have Assumption of Mary on August 15, Feast of Saint Januarius on September
19, All Saint on November 1, etc. In India, where there are numerous cultural celebrations compared to religious ones, there is need to
leverage on these celebrations to run marketing promotions. In Italy, public holidays are declared for many religious celebrations. This
results in a change of communication strategy in the host country from what could have been adopted in the home country.
Overall, even though the channel marketing strategy for both regions may be similar because both countries share similar levels of
cultural nuances with respect to Hofstede’s cultural dimension (2021) – they both score high in Masculinity and Long Term Orientation,
the global brand communication strategy has to be tweaked occasioned by some other differing cultural nuances. This was what
necessitated the above content calendar to enable the company to align with the culture and tradition of its target market/audience. With
this, our global brand communication will adequately resonate with the targeted consumers to ensure they key into our offerings as much
as possible.
