WORKSHEET IN DISASTER READINESS AND RISK REDUCTION

Worksheet No. 07 Week No:
Topic: Fire Hazards
Student’s Name: Sean Paul S. Labador Strand/Gr. and Section STEM 11-2
SCORE:_______________Remarks:______________________________________________________________________________
Teacher: Mr. Santos

I. Learning Tasks Instructions: Answer the following questions

II.
1. What is the meaning of fire tetrahedron?
According to Safe Opedia, The fire tetrahedron is a geometric
representation of the four properties that must exist in order for a fire to
occur in a given situation. These properties include fuel, heat, an
oxidizing agent (typically oxygen found in ambient air), and an
uninhibited chemical reaction.

2. Give five ways to prevent fire at home.

1 All heaters require space. Children, pets, and items that can burn (paper, matches, bedding,
furniture, clothing, carpets, and rugs) should be kept at least three feet away from heating
equipment.
2 If a space heater is required, place it on a level, hard, and nonflammable surface (such as a
ceramic tile floor), not on rugs, carpets, or near bedding or drapes. Power cords should be plugged
directly into outlets, not into extension cords.
3 Never leave a fire unattended in the fireplace, and use a glass or metal fire screen to keep fire
and embers contained in the fireplace.
4 Never heat your home with a cooking range or oven.
5 Turn off portable space heaters whenever you leave a room or go to bed.

3. Give five ways to prevent fire in the kitchen.

1 Don’t use metal in the microwave

2 Unplug electric appliances when not in use
3 Never leave cooking food unattended.
4 Keep dish towels, pot holders, and paper towels away from the stove
5 Keep appliances serviced, clean, and in good repair.

4. Give five ways to plan your escape route.

1 Start by drawing a floor plan

2 Practice your emergency escape plan
3 Make your home escape-route friendly
4 Pick a place to meet outside your home
5 Check in with your insurance provider

II. Learning Tasks Instructions: Create a Concept map about the elements of
fire.

To understand how fire extinguishers work, you must first understand what fire is.
To produce fire, four things must be present at the same time:
 Enough oxygen to keep the fire going,
 Heat sufficient to bring the material to its ignition temperature,
 Some kind of fuel or combustible material, as well as
Fire is a chemical, exothermic reaction.
Examine the diagram above, dubbed the "Fire Triangle."

 The three elements of oxygen, heat, and fuel are commonly referred to as the "fire
triangle." Add the fourth element, the chemical reaction, and you have a fire
"tetrahedron." The important thing to remember is that if any of these four
elements is removed, there will be no fire or the fire will be extinguished.

 Fire extinguishers put out fires by removing one or more elements of the fire
triangle/tetrahedron.

 At its most basic, fire safety is based on the principle of keeping fuel sources and
ignition sources separate.
