What is the reality right now in terms of Mental Health of Filipinos?

The Department of Health estimates that

at least 3.6 million Filipinos


are facing mental health issues during the
pandemic, including depression, anxiety,
substance use disorders such as alcohol
use disorder, and mood disorders like
bipolar disorder (URC, 2021).

What is the reality right now in terms of Mental Health of Filipinos?

At its worst, depression can lead to suicide.


Over 700 000 people die due to suicide every
year. Suicide is the fourth leading cause of
death in 15-29-year-olds. Although there are
known, effective treatments for mental disorders, more
than 75% of people in low- and middle-income
countries receive no treatment (WHO, 2021).

Mental Health (LUSOG-ISIP)

• Psychological state of an
individual
• Can be positive or negative
Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It
affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress,
relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of
life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.

Well-being (GINHAWA)
a state of happiness and contentment, with low levels of distress, overall good
physical and mental health and outlook, or good quality of life.

• Holistic view of mental health including


physical, spiritual, and psychological
wellness
• Having this can promote the mental health
of the individual
