Hand-held exciter(5961)
The portable Exciter Type 5961 combines the adaptability of a
shaker test to optimize the excitation signal for the current test
with the mobility of an impact hammer test to quickly move about
the test structure. Although an impact hammer test is quick and
simple to conduct, the high crest factor* has the potential to
cause the structure to behave non-linearly. A linear
approximation of mildly non-linear structures cannot be achieved
when performing averaging due to the impact signal's extremely
predictable nature. To greatly reduce the crest factor and provide
a good linear fit of slightly non-linear structures in a shaker test,
different types of random excitation signals can be utilized,
including continuous, burst, and periodic signals. In addition, using
burst or periodic random excitation you can avoid leakage in the
analysis. With shaker testing, you also have full control of
excitation bandwidth and can limit it to the frequency range of
interest including zoom measurements.
