INTRODUCTION

The algebraic sum of the resolved parts of a number of forces in the

given direction is equal to the resolved part of their resultant in the
same direction. The process of finding out the resultant force of a
number of given forces is called the composition/compounding of
forces.

METHOD OF RESOLUTION FRACTION

1. Resolution of a force into two mutually perpendicular

components.
2. Resolution of a force into two non-perpendicular components.

RESOLUTION OF FORCE

Definition:

The process of substituting a force by its components so that the net

effect on the body remains the same is known as resolution of a force.

 For each force, there exists an infinite number of possible sets of

components.

Suppose A Force Is To Be Resolved Into Two Components.

Then:

1. When one of the components is known, the second component can

be obtained by applying the triangle rule.
2. When the line of action of each component is known, the magnitude
and the sense of the components are obtained by parallelogram law.
RESOLUTION OF FORCES
Resolution of forces is basically defined as the process of determining
two components of a force which will have the same external effect on
the body as the force itself.
Resolution of forces could be seen as the opposite of composition of
forces.

Let us consider the following case where a force F is acting on the body
and its angle is θ.

Now, there will be two components of this force F i.e. Fx and Fy and
their value will be as mentioned here.
Fx = F cos θ

Fy = F Sin θ

Tan θ = Fx/Fy
Magnitude of the force, F = Square root of {Fx2 + Fy } 2

Therefore, we have seen here the composition of forces and resolution

of forces with the help of this post.

Do you have any suggestions? Please write in comment box and also
drop your email id in the given mail box which is given at right hand
side of page for further and continuous update .

Further we will find out, in our next post, body forces and surface
forces, in engineering mechanics.

PRINCIPLES:
The algebraic sum of the resolved parts of a number of forces in the given direction
is equal to the resolved part of their resultant in the same direction.
COMPOSITION FORCES

The process of finding out the resultant force of a number of given forces is called the
composition/compounding of forces.

Difference Between Composition And Resolution

Forces
Composition of force
Composition force is the method in which we are finding out the resultant
force of a number of forces acting simultaneously on the body. on the
other hand, also we can say that finding out the resultant force of the given
force it is called composition force or compounding of force,
Resolution of Forces,
Resolution of Forces is the method in which process of breaking a force
into the two components, basically horizontal and vertical components. on
the other hand, also we can say that process of substituting a force by its
components so that the net effect on body remains same it is called
resolution of a force.
Explain:
Composition is basically defined as the process of reducing a force
system to an equivalent and simplest force system, which will have the
same external effect on the body as the original force system.

Composition of forces are based on the principle of transmissibility of

forces and law of parallelogram for vector addition.

Let us consider the following case where two forces i.e. F1 and F2 are
acting on the body as displayed here in following figure. Line of actions
of these two forces are meeting with each other at point P.

In order to determine the resultant of these two forces, we will use the
principle of transmissibility of forces and law of parallelogram for
vector addition.

Let us first recall the principle of transmissibility of forces and move

the forces F1 and F2 as displayed here in following figure.
Now we will use the law of parallelogram for vector addition and the
resultant of these two forces will be R as displayed here in following
figure.

We must note it here that the resultant R of these two forces i.e. F 1 and
F2 will have the same external effect on the body as that of the original
forces F1 and F2.
