Group-4 Training-Design Lakbay Aral
Rationale:
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected every segment of life, including health,
economy, education, and social ecologies. Quarantine measures have forced people to
stay inside their homes, leading to the “new normal” of living and adaptation. One
activity that has been among Filipinos during the onset of the lockdown until the present
time is the increased engagement in gardening.
Home gardening suddenly became a widespread activity in rural and urban areas.
The use of the words “plantito” [male] and “plantita” [female] denote someone who
enjoys taking care of plants. Gardening has always been touted as a relaxing
recreational activity that can provide great personal rewards. During this time, when
many people are working at home, gardening can be a positive activity to divert their
attention into something productive.
Barangay Cabadbaran, an urban community, where mothers are staying at home in this
time of pandemic are now engaging into flower-planting activities for them to have an
extra income to support their everyday living. Although they have their own techniques
on growing flowers, it would be of great help to help them expand their knowledge not
just in making their flowers healthy, but also on educating them in using a less-
expensive materials that are available at home, just like empty plastic bottles and many
more.
The interests of growing number of Plantitas at Cabadbaran is what made this Lakbay-
Aral Activity conceptualized as to how to make them capable on making their Flower-
planting journey creative and productive.
Objective/s:
Generally, this activity design aims to expand the knowledge of the Plantitas of
Cabadbaran by giving them the chance to observe different farms with different
strategies on growing flowers as well as to engage them to creative and productive
activities beneficial to their gardening journey.
Participants:
Barangay Kagawad -2
Plantitas of Cabadbaran - 15
Total: 17
Methodology:
This is a beneficial Lakbay-Aral designed for two days. It will be participated by two
(2) Barangay Kagawad and 15 (fifteen) Plantitas of Cabadbaran, ages 30-45 and with no
below 18-year-old children. The participants must be physically healthy in order to carry
out the activity successfully.
The starting point will be from their barangay to Ziram farm, to Alameda farm and
will have the overnight stay at Manlangit Nature Park from which the day 2 will be held.
Activities will be done at Manlangit Nature Park since the area of this farm suits well to
the goal of this activity. The day 1 will focus on their Lakbay-Aral activity, while the day 2
will focus on their creative activities at Manlangit Nature Park where there will be a contest
of making flower pots, another way of encouraging the participants to showcase their
creativity skills in gardening. The flower-pot making will be followed with brief discussions
on what strategies they utilized to come up with such output. The use of creative arts is
believed to be the best way to ensure that participants are participating in the activities,
and to know if they have acquired new ideas relating to their interests.
The results of the contest will determine if they are able to learn things about
growing flowers, creative flower pots, proper application of fertilizers and choosing the
appropriate soil type for flowers. Sharing of insights will also be done after the flower pot
making contest in order for them to express their feelings about their experience.
