The utilization of coconut husk fiber in the production of cement fibreboards

VON MISES STRESS THEORY

Coconut waste is plentiful all year round. The average yield of dry lignocellulose
substances including husks, spathes, and many more that is estimated to be 12.75 t. This offers
promising opportunities for using agricultural leftovers in the manufacturing of high-value
commodities or as a portion of panels and boards for the construction sector. On the other
hand, Coconut fiber-cement board (CFB) was created using fibrous elements including
shredded wood, leaves, and spathes from coconuts (University of the Philippine, 2008). Thus,
the researchers involved on the theoretical framework in this study using Von Mises Stress
Theory (VMS) or Maximum Distortion Energy Theory (MDE), to which idea is derived first and,
therefore, a popular failure theory employed in the mechanical field of designing. The
researcher will apply this theory to examine the tensile strength of the cement fibreboard using
coconut husk.

Furthermore, one of the commonly accepted methods for constructing strain hardening
engineering components is the Von Mises Stress theory. to determine whether an objective has
been achieved and will function during its life span. It has therefore been demonstrated to be
quite effective. James Clerk Maxwell came up with this theory in 1865, but it was not until
Richard Edler Von Mises, a physicist, when was further explored. According to the theorists,
when determining whether a ductile material would fail (yield or fracture) under specific loading
conditions, the Von Mises stress is being used. It is a stress values especially focused on
distortion energy. If the Von Mises stress or pressure distribution of a product during loading is
the same or higher than the limit state of the identical material below a straightforward uniaxial
tension test, it implies that the materials will fail. In additional, when it was found that materials,
particularly ductile ones, reacted differently under non-simple tension and showed resistance
values that were significantly higher than those seen throughout simple tension testing, this led
to the development of the MDE theory. As a result, a theory based on the entire stress tensor
was created.

In accordance with research, it is related to the VMS theory or MDE theory, yielding
happens whenever the distortion energy surpasses a certain threshold level. It is straightforward
to determine this critical value, that varies depending on the material, by carrying out a tension
experiment. The given structural material states that it is safe as long as its maximum value of
distortion energy allowed volume stays lower than the distortion energy per unit volume
necessary to cause yield in a specified tensile test for the same material. A genuine stress is not
the VMS. It is a theoretical value that enables a comparison in between unaxial stress yield limit
and the generalized tridimensional stress. Therefore, the researchers will be able to determine if
there will be a significant relationship between the tensile strength of the cement fibreboard
among the different amount of coconut husk used in grams through the guide of this theoretical
development.
