FILTER PANEL
17FM460B1

INTRODUCTION
The 17FM460B1 Filter Panel is part of the Off-High-
way Vehicle propulsion system. It is designed to protect
the diodes in the main rectifier panel from damage by
suppressing transient high voltage spikes. See Fig. 1 for
the schematic diagram.

The panel is connected line-to-line on the three-

phase output of the alternator.

MAINTENANCE
GENERAL MAINTENANCE

This panel requires very little maintenance. Howev-

er, it is recommended that periodically the following be
performed:

rial out of the panel with dry, compressed air.

pacitor.

b. A SHORTED capacitor will cause the meter

to read zero ohms immediately. The meter
needle will remain at that indication until
prods are removed from capacitor terminals.

c. A GOOD capacitor will cause the meter

needle to deflect to, or toward, zero at the
instant test prods are applied to capacitor ter-
minals; then the needle will return to, or move
toward, infinite resistance as the capacitor
charges. The amount of initial deflection and
the rate of return of the needle are deter-
mined by the capacity of the capacitor; the
greater the capacity, the greater the deflec-
tion and the slower the return.

d. If the initial tests are inconclusive, remove

prods of analyzer from capacitor terminals,
discharge capacitor with a piece of wire, and
repeat Step 4.

CIRCUIT CHECKS

When checking panel wiring, see Figs. 1 and 2 for the

wiring diagram. Insure that all resistor values are cor-
rect.
