1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 Purpose
The purpose of this document is to provide the requirements for the CPU Board.
1.2 Scope
This document provides the requirements for the CPU Board used for PB640, PB560, PB540 and
PB520.

2.0 OVERVIEW
The CPU board contains the logic to execute application code to read user input, control the turbine to
provide breath delivery, provide error checking, and provide information to the user.

3.0 Electrical Requirements

3.1 General
HWSCPB1 The system must be able to measure the 24V supply voltage from 22V to 26V in order to
watch supply voltage. 
HWSCPB2 The system must be able to measure the 24V supply voltage from 22V to 26V in order to
detect a failure of the power fail detection system. 
HWSCPB3 The inrush current of the system must be lower than 2A and shorter than 100 ms. 
HWSCPB4 Maximum system power consumption must be limited to 15W. 
3.2 5 Volt Supply
HWSCPB5 The 5 Volt Supply shall have an input of 24.0V +/- 1.2V  
HWSCPB6 The 5 Volt Supply shall produce an output of 5.00V +/- 0.25V 
HWSCPB7 The 5 Volt Supply shall be capable of sourcing 3A 

3.3 3.3 Volt Supply


HWSCPB8 The 3.3 Volt Supply shall have an input of 5.0V+/- 0.25 
HWSCPB9 The 3.3 Volt Supply shall produce an output of 3.30V +/- 0.15V 
HWSCPB10 The 3.3 Volt Supply shall be capable of sourcing 0.400A 

3.4 10 Volt Reference


HWSCPB11 The 10 Volt Reference shall have an input of 24.0V +/- 1.2V  
HWSCPB12 The 10 Volt Reference shall produce an output of 10.00V +/- 0.1V

3.6 5 Volt reference Monitor


The system contains a 5 Volt Reference monitoring that will produce a digital signal if a drop in the 5
volt reference is detected
HWSCPB17 5 Volt Reference monitoring shall detect a drop greater than 0.5V 
HWSCPB18 The 5 Volt Reference monitoring signal shall be active for a minimum of 140ms 

3.7 3.3 Volt Monitor


The system contains a 3.3 Volt Reference monitoring that will produce a digital signal if a drop in the
3.3 volt supply is detected
HWSCPB19 The 3.3 Volt Reference monitoring shall detect a drop of greater than 0.3V 
HWSCPB20 The 3.3 Volt Reference monitoring signal shall be active for a minimum of 140ms 

3.8 10 Volt reference Monitor


The system contains a 10 Volt Reference monitoring that will produce a digital signal if a drop in the
10 volt reference is detected
HWSCPB21 The 10 Volt Reference monitoring shall detect a drop of greater than 1.1V 
HWSCPB22 The 10 Volt Reference monitoring signal shall be active for a minimum of 140ms 

3.9 Exhalation valve Interface


HWSCPB23 The exhalation valve driver shall drive a proportional 3 way valve with a 24VDC PWM
signal.  
HWSCPB24 The exhalation valve driver shall have the ability to drive up to 100mA. 
HWSCPB25 The exhalation valve PWM signal shall have a frequency of 14.975 kHz +/-10%  
HWSCPB26 The exhalation valve PWM signal shall have a resolution of 25.00 ns +/-5 ns 
The current drawn by the exhalation valve is measured.
HWSCPB27 The exhalation valve current measurement shall have a range of 0 to 45 mA. 
HWSCPB28 The exhalation valve current measurement shall have an accuracy of +/- 1mA. 

3.10  Turbine Board Interface 


The Turbine Interface generates a blower speed command by providing a PWM signal.
HWSCPB29 The PWM speed signal shall have a frequency of 9.765 kHz +/- 10%. 
HWSCPB30 The PWM speed signal shall have a resolution of 25.00 ns +/-5 ns 
The turbine interface generates a blower brake command by providing a PWM signal.
HWSCPB31 The PWM signal shall have a frequency of 15.060 kHz +/- 10%  
HWSCPB32 The PWM signal shall have a resolution of 400ns +/-80ns. 
HWSCPB33 The turbine interface shall have the ability to measure the blower speed within a range
of 1000 to 60000 rpm with +/-1% accuracy.  
HWSCPB34 The turbine interface shall provide a TTL control signal to enable the blower power. 
HWSCPB35 The turbine interface shall provide the ability to measure temperature within a range of
-60 to +80 °C +/- 1°C. 

3.11  Power Supply Board Communication Interface 


An SPI (# 0) serial bus is provided for communication with the Power Supply Board microcontroller.
HWSCPB36 The SPI (# 0) bus for Power Supply Board Calculator communication shall have a
transfer rate of 1.8Mbit/s +/-5%. 
HWSCPB37 CPU board shall receive a digital input TTL signal from the Power Supply board to
provide the AC status for the keypad led and for the CPU (line 15).

HWSCPB38 The CPU board shall receive a DC supply status digital input TTL signal from Power
Supply Board ribbon cable (line 16) to the Keyboard. 
HWSCPB39 The CPU board shall receive a Battery supply status digital input TTL signal from Power
Supply Board ribbon cable (line 17) to the Keyboard. 
An SPI (# 1) serial bus is provided for communication with the Power Supply Board USB Gateway.
HWSCPB117 The SPI (# 1) bus for Power Supply Board USB Gateway communication shall have a
transfer rate of 1.8Mbit/s +/-5%. 
An UART bus is provided for CPU/PC communication through the Power Supply Board.
HWSCPB40 The UART CPU/ PC communication shall be capable of data transfers with a baud rate
of 115200.  
HWSCPB41 The UART CPU/ PC communication shall be able to update the CPU SW with a baud
rate of 256000. 
HWSCPB42 The CPU board shall receive a digital input TTL from the PC(through the supply board)
to drive the CPU in a “waiting for update”. 
HWSCPB43 The CPU board shall provide a digital output TTL Reset flag signal to the Power Supply
board USB Gate way through the ribbon cable (line 11). 
HWSCPB44 The CPU board shall receive a digital input TTL Busy flag signal to the Power Supply
board Gate way through the ribbon cable (line 12). 
HWSCPB45 The CPU board shall receive an analog input signal from the Power Supply board
through the ribbon cable (line 14) to give the battery voltage with a range of 0V to 30V +/-0.3V. 

3.12  Buzzer Board Interface


HWSCPB46 The CPU board shall generate a PWM signal of 60 kHz +/-10%. 
HWSCPB47 The PWM signal shall have a resolution of 25ns +/-5ns. 
HWSCPB48 The PWM signal shall be capable of modulating the PWM signal with a square wave
signal 880 Hz to 1000 Hz +/-10%. 
HWSCPB49 The CPU board shall generate a rising edge signal from 0V +/-0,5V to a voltage greater
than 4.5V to activate the Buzzer Board in autonomous and continuous mode. 
HWSCPB50 The CPU board shall drive a low level TTL signal (0V +/-0,5V) when the inhibit key is
pressed, even if the system is switched off. 
HWSCPB51 The CPU board shall read the state of the alarm board through an analog signal with a
range of 0V to 5V +/- 0.1V. 

3.13 Remote Alarm Interface


HWSCPB52 The CPU board shall provide a remote alarm function with normally open contacts. 
HWSCPB53 The CPU board shall provide a remote alarm function with normally closed contacts. 
HWSCPB54 The contacts shall be capable of supporting a resistive load of 100mA +10% with a DC
source of 24 VDC.

3.14 Keyboard Interface
The CPU board provides support for 6 keys (7 keys for PB640).
The CPU board provides support for 6 LEDs (7 LEDs for PB640).
HWSCPB55 The CPU board shall provide support to read activation and deactivation of a “down”
key. 
HWSCPB56 The CPU board shall provide support to read activation and deactivation of an “up” key. 
HWSCPB57 The CPU board shall provide support to read activation and deactivation of a “ventil”
key. 
HWSCPB58 The CPU board shall provide support to read activation and deactivation of a “navig”
key. 
HWSCPB59 The CPU board shall provide support to read activation and deactivation of a “valid”
key. 
HWSCPB60 The CPU board shall provide support to read activation and deactivation of an “inhib
alarm” key. 
HWSCPB61 (PB640 only) The CPU board shall provide support to read activation and deactivation
of a “100%O2” key. 
A digital output TTL signal shall be relayed from the Power Supply board to drive the battery power
LED state. Refer to HWSCPB39
A digital output TTL signal shall be relayed from the Power Supply board to drive the DC power LED
state (in order to operate LED even if the main switch is switched off). Refer to HWSCPB38
A digital output TTL signal shall be relayed from the Power Supply board to drive the AC LED state
(in order to operate LED even if the main switch is switched off). Refer to HWSCPB37.
HWSCPB63 A digital output TTL signal shall be provided to drive the ventilation LED state. 
HWSCPB64 A digital output TTL signal shall be provided to drive the red alarm LED state. 
HWSCPB65 A digital output TTL signal shall be provided to drive the orange alarm LED state.

3.15 Display Interface
HWSCPB66 The system must be interfaced with a TTL parallel bus graphic Card.  
HWSCPB67 The parallel bus shall access a 256FIFO temp memory.  
HWSCPB68 The parallel bus shall have the following characteristics at 40 MHz max (see schematic

3.16 FiO2 Sensor Interface


HWSCPB69 (PB560, PB640 only) The CPU board shall be capable of measuring an oxygen sensor
signal from 0 to 66mV +/- 0.7mV.  
HWSCPB70 (PB560, PB640 only) The general accuracy of the calibrated O2 system measurement
shall be +/- 7% form 0 to 100% vol.O2.  

3.17 O2 Flow Sensor Interface (PB640 only)


HWSCPB71 (PB640 only) The CPU board shall be capable of measuring an oxygen flow meter
signal with a range of: 0 to 5V+/- 50mV. 
HWSCPB72 (PB640 only) The O2 flow sensor precision must be as follow (See table):

3.18 O2 Valve Interface


HWSCPB73 The CPU board shall provide a 24VDC PWM signal to drive a 2 way valve.  
HWSCPB74 The driver shall have the ability to drive 200 mA.

3.19 Security Back-up Buzzer
HWSCPB77 The system must be able to activate a backup alarm with a sound level of 80 dB +/-5%
at 10cm.  
HWSCPB78 The system must be able to activate an alarm on system failure with a 80dB +/-5% level
at 10cm. 

3.20 RAM Memory


HWSCPB79 The CPU board shall have a minimum of 64kB of volatile memory. 

3.21 Event Memory


HWSCPB80 The CPU board shall have a minimum of 512kB of non volatile memory for event
recording. 
HWSCPB81 The event memory shall support a minimum of 100,000 erase and program cycles. 

3.22 Ventilation Settings Memory


HWSCPB82 The CPU board shall have a minimum of 4kB of non volatile memory for settings
recording. 
HWSCPB83 The setting memory shall support a minimum of 1,000,000 erase and program cycles. 

3.23 Monitoring Memory


HWSCPB84 The CPU board shall have a minimum of 128MB of non volatile memory for monitoring
recording. 
HWSCPB85 The monitoring memory shall support a minimum of 100,000 erase and program
cycles. 

3.24 Watchdog
A watchdog function shall be provided to detect execution of processor instructions.
HWSCPB86 The watchdog shall generate a reset pulse if it is not strobed at a time interval shorter
than 1.6 +/-0.65s.  
HWSCPB88 If the reset is activated by a timeout; it shall be active for a minimum of 140ms and a
maximum of 280ms. 
A supervisory function shall be provided to detect loss of voltage.
HWSCPB89 The supervisory function shall generate a reset if Vcc voltage drops below [4.50V;
4.75]. 
HWSCPB90 The reset pulse of the supervisory function shall remain active until Vcc goes over
[4.54V; 4.75] (hysteresis: +0.01V compared to the trigger detection. Refer to HWSCPB89). 
HWSCPB91 If reset is generated by the supervisory function the minimum pulse width shall be 140
ms. 
HWSCPB92 The signal shall go inactive when the voltage returns to specification and the minimum
pulse width has been met. 
HWSCPB93 The system must be warned when the supply (+24V) drops to 13.01V +/- 2% before
system shut off on power loss and must active a trap function. 

3.25 Clock
HWSCPB94 The CPU Board shall provide timestamp information. 
HWSCPB95 Timestamp information shall be kept for duration of 3 years, if the CPU board is not
supplied (main switch switched off).
