Project Notes
Use #16 tapestry when stitching with pearl cotton.
Use #20 tapestry needle when working with metal-
lic needlepoint yarn.
To cut each skein of pearl cotton into approximately
1-yard lengths, remove wrappers and untwist skein.
Cut through loop that ties threads together, cut off
knot. Cut through entire skein at same point.
Instructions
1. Cut plastic canvas according to graphs.
2. Using Slanted Gobelin Stitch, Cross Stitch and
variation of Herringbone Stitch (above), stitch pieces
with 2 strands pearl cotton (one black and one
white), keeping strands flat and untwisted and keep-
ing black strand always above white strand.
3. Overcast inside edges on top and sides with
black metallic needlepoint yarn, keeping yarn flat
and untwisted.
4. Using black and white pearl cotton combination,
Whipstitch sides together along three of the four
corners, leaving the last corner unstitched at this
time; Overcast bottom edges.
5. Cut four 5-inch-wide x 53/4-inch-high pieces of
aluminum metal and four 41/2-inch-wide x 51/4-inch-
high pieces of metal mesh. Center one mesh piece

Herringbone Stitch Variation
Work each Herringbone Stitch column from
top to bottom. Start with two uppermost stitches
on right side (graph A), then work two stitches on
the left side (graph B). Work next two on right side (C),
then two on left side (D), etc., alternating down the column.
