EVIDENCE OF PLATE MOVEMENT
PANGAEA
In 1912, German scientist Alfred Wegener proposed that Earth's continents once formed a single, giant
landmass, called Pangaea. Over millions of years, Pangaea slowly broke apart, eventually forming the
continents as they are today

FOSSILS
scientist have found fossils of the same species on different continents (seperated by
oceans)

this emplies that this landmasses were once closer together to allow the species to travel between
continents
COASTLINE MATCHING

Coastline Matching
The similarity of coastlines for different
continents suggests that they may once have been
connected. But the fact that they were separated
by sometimes thousands of miles suggested
continental drift or plate tectonics .
PALEOMAGNETISM
paleamagnetizm- it shows the orientation of magnetic minerals, like
magnetite, these minerals chane their orientation if the magnetic north moves
in an event called the geometrical reversal
Paleomagnetism

is the study of ancient pole positions and makes use of remanent
magnetization to reconstruct the direction and strength of the geomagnetic field
in the past.
AGE,HEAT AND MAGNETIC
ORIENTATION

additional evidences that support the

continental drift theory is the age of
the sampled materials, their magnetic
orientation and their heat source
EARTHQUAKE AND VOLCANOES
Both volcanoes and earthquakes occur due to movement of the Earth’s tectonic
plates. They are both caused by the heat and energy releasing from the Earth’s
core. Earthquakes can trigger volcanic eruptions through severe movement of
tectonic plates. Similarly, volcanoes can trigger earthquakes through the
movement of magma within a volcano. Therefore, one aspect of how are volcanoes
and earthquakes interrelated is the cyclical relationship where earthquakes
cause volcanic eruptions and magma movement causes earthquakes.
