Global industry organization the World Steel Association forecasts that steel demand

will contract by 2.3% this year to reach 1.80-billion tonnes.

It adds that steel demand will, however, recover in 2023, growing by 1% to 1.81-
billion tonnes.

Closer home, in India, the government’s decision to withdraw export duty on certain
steel products and key raw materials will bring some respite to domestic steel
producers. Even though global demand is softening, pickup in exports will support steel
prices in the domestic market, and export of value-added products will add to the
profitability of manufacturers.

FIRST Construction Council along with Construction World and Infrastructure Today
Magazine are organizing the 6th Annual MAKE IN STEEL Conference & Awards on
10th February 2023 in Delhi.

am Decarbonization versus Growth - Steel Industry’s ‘Net Zero’ dilemma
With over about 8% of final energy demand and 7% of energy sector CO2
emissions, the steel sector is one of the most challenging sectors to
decarbonise. India, the world’s second largest steel producer is fifth largest
GHG emitter, contributed 134.73 million tonnes of CO2, accounting for 4.75% of
the total emissions (without LULUCF). With the growing demand for steel,
emissions are expected to increase in future. In this session, the steel producers
will talk about their challenges, plans and steps taken towards decarbonising
steel industry in India.
 The future and implementation of green steel
 Sustainability and low-carbon steel initiatives
 Evaluating the steps being taken for participants to reduce scope
