Russia had a population of 142.8 million according to the 2010 census,[7] which rose to 146.2
million as of 2021 following the annexation of Crimea in 2014.[8] It is the most populous country in
Europe, and the ninth-most populous country in the world; with a population density of 9
inhabitants per square kilometre (23 per square mile). [9]
