Assignment 1: Culture & I

Factors that shape a person’s culture: Culture as a way of life

Due Date: Due online by 5pm on the day of your CCPFP class in Week 4 (7-11 Nov 2022)

Using the various factors which you have learnt about culture, reflect on how the factors have
affected or influenced you. From the list of 8 factors listed below, select 1 factor that has
contributed most significantly to your own cultural / personal identity. Please select the factor
from the list below (see image) and indicate the chosen factor in your write-up.

You should also show depth in your discussion of the points by providing analysis and reflection
for the various questions. The maximum word limit for each question is 200 words (in total for all
questions not more than 800 words.)
Indicate your chosen factor and explain and analyse the following: (5 marks per question)
1) How the factor has impacted you and shaped your life? (positively or negatively, provide
examples and elaborate)
2) Who or what are your sources of influence for the factor? How did your sources of
influence affect your behavior or attitude on the factor? (provide examples and elaborate)
3) Identify and explain one challenge that you could face in relating to others who are
different from you where this factor is concerned.
4) Based on the challenge identified in Q3, how have / will you overcome this challenge due
to the differences? Elaborate with insight and examples. (e.g. if the factor is Social Class,
what is one challenge you may face with someone who is from a different social class?
How do you intend to overcome it?)

5. Word limit & Word Word limit: The maximum limit for the whole assignment is 800 words. Parts of

Word count: Do indicate the word count at the end of each question as well as at
the end of your write-up. Word count should not include in-text citations,
references or headings.

I mark will be deducted for not submitting the word count.

6. Plagiarism check Draft: Submit a draft of your assignment BEFORE the deadline to check on
on Turnitin your SafeAssign score (to the Assignment 1 – DRAFT Turnitin submission
link on MeL). You are allowed multiple attempts to submit drafts but
remember that this is not the final submission. Your SafeAssign score should
ideally not exceed 20%.

- If your score is higher than 20% and there are parts in the text that are
highlighted in chunks, with no in-text citations and references provided,
please revise those parts before the final submission.

- If your score is higher than 20% due to the system highlighting your in-
text citations, references or other non-content related points, do not worry
– go ahead and submit your FINAL document.

Final: Once you are ready to submit the final document, upload your
document on Brightspace to the Assignment 1 – FINAL Turnitin
submission link. You only have one attempt for this so ensure that you
have submitted the correct copy and that your submission is on time. Your
Mark Sheet (with your name, student ID and reg no. filled) should be
uploaded on MeL to the Assignment 1 – Mark Sheet link.

7. Academic honesty You must never copy or submit your friend’s work. If you are using
& integrity information from elsewhere, please provide citations/references. If
citations/references are not provided, or if you have been found to have
plagiarized your work, you will be dealt with in accordance with NP’s Policy

8. Late submission LATE Submission penalty:


penalty A penalty of 10% of the total mark allocated for the assessment will be
deducted per day for the first 7 days (including weekends & public holidays).

Assessments submitted later than 7days after the deadline without a valid
reason or prior approval will receive a mark of ZERO. (Late submissions will
increase your RISK of FAILING the assessment and/or module.)
