Q.1 (a) Define Isotherms and the Thermal Cycle. 03


(b) Why are high hardenability and carbon content undesirable for 04
successful welding of low alloy or carbon steels?
(c) Explain the effect of growth rate R and temperature gradient G on 07
solidification morphology graphically with a neat schematic.

Q.2 (a) What are the different methods of controlling grain structure? Briefly 03
explain about each method.
(b) What is the purpose of controlling the preheating and interpass 04
temperatures in CS/LAS welding?
(c) Draw and name the various phases that have occurred as a function of 07
varied cooling rates using the Weld CCT diagram of Eutectoid Steel.
