3. COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
This course covers the scope and sequence of introductory business matters which
includes examination of business management theory and provide opportunities for application
of these ideas in real world situations. This course discusses core themes such as management,
customer satisfaction, ethics, entrepreneurship, global business, managing change and human
resources management. Both traditional and cutting-edge approaches are introduced and
applied. The outcome is a balanced approach to the theory and application of business concepts,
with attention to the knowledge and skills necessary for student success in this course and
beyond.

Ronald J. Ebert and Ricky W. Griffin (2019): Business Essentials, 12th ed., Global
edition, Pearson Prentice Hall.
5. COURSE GOALS/OBJECTIVES
● Develop an overall understanding of business theory: the principles, theories and practices.
Assess global and national situation, including opportunities and threats that will impact
business nowadays.
● Understand how to manage the business, organize the business and managing operations and
quality.
● Understand people in organizations in terms of employee behavior and motivation; human
resources management and leadership.
● Discuss the principles of Marketing including marketing process, consumer behavior and
basics of marketing mix.
● Understand managing information technology, financial system and issues in financial
management.

Attendance and Participation: 10%
Group Assignment: 40%
Final Examination: 50%

8. COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATION


8.1 Class Attendance
- Students are responsible for attending all classes. In case of absence due to force majeure
reasons, sufficient and reasonable proofs must be provided.
- Students who are absent for more than 2 sessions without reasonable proof are considered
to have failed to complete the course.
8.2 In- class behavior
- All acts that affect the teaching and learning process are strictly prohibited.
- Students who are late for more than 15 minutes after class starting time will not be
allowed to attend the class.
- Laptops and tablets are only allowed for the learning purpose (recording lectures,
calculating and serving lectures and exercises), absolutely not allowed for anything else.
8.3. Group work:
For the group assignment, groups will be assigned to all students randomly. There will be
a peer review that members of class can complete. Peer review is the summary of what every
member in the group has contributed to the group work, and the evaluation of that member’s
attitude and teamwork skills and spirit. If any student receives bad feedback from their group
members, they will not receive the same marks as the rest of the group; members who contribute
well will have bonus points. If anyone feels like their group members are not contributing
equally, please don’t hesitate to send me a peer review. It is also uploaded in the folder on
Google drive.
