In its second edition, Distrital comes back as a renewed event; the interdisciplinary vision that characterizes it also distinguishes it and opens doors to new challenges. In this, the tenth anniversary of our association, Circo 2.12, we present a new team of promoters who epitomize the best of the spirit which has marked our history. With Distrital, we celebrate cinema and the arts. And in the second HispanicAmerican Forum of Community Film Societies we socialize our everyday experience as independent promoters to produce a richer dialogue. The creative challenges and infinite possibilities of the moving image, of music and audiovisual experimentation, as well as the building of littleexplored languages consolidate our search. The first edition was viewed as a necessary space for reviewing national and international cinema and so its structure was including, with a strong commitment to give life to a truly cinematic event. This time, after reflecting upon what we have learned, our concern is to genuinely care for the audience and the development of the audiovisual within a cultural context, giving as the result a program with an inspiring and congruent offer of continuity to deepen into the gaze of the audience and to meet the interests of those who endeavor in the organization of this project. I want to recognize the work of the great team behind this new edition, to thank institutions and diplomatic delegations, the media, brands and businesses involved in giving life to these nine days of recognition and contact with a unique imaginary, with a social call and a special sensitivity that allows us to discover a privileged window into the best world cinema. Circo 2.12 presents for you the cinema we want to see. We welcome you dearly, thanking all our accomplices and allies in this effort. Without every one of you, Distrital wouldnt be possible. Thanks!

La segunda edicin de Distrital llega como un evento renovado. La visin interdisciplinaria que caracteriza el diseo de esta emisin lo distingue abriendo puertas a nuevos retos. En el dcimo aniversario de nuestra asociacin Circo 2.12, presentamos a un nuevo equipo de promotores que renen lo mejor del espritu de todo lo que ha constituido nuestra historia. Con Distrital, celebramos al cine y las artes. Con el segundo Foro Iberoamericano de Cineclubes Comunitarios, socializamos nuestra labor cotidiana como promotores independientes y enriquecemos el dilogo. Los retos creativos y las posibilidades infinitas de la imagen en movimiento, la msica, la experimentacin audiovisual y la construccin de lenguajes poco explorados consolidan nuestra bsqueda. La primera edicin se plante como un espacio necesario con una estructura incluyente para la revisin del cine nacional y del mundo, con el firme compromiso de darle vida a un suceso cinematogrfico. En esta ocasin, la reflexin sobre lo aprendido atiende a una genuina preocupacin por el pblico y por el desarrollo audiovisual dentro de un contexto cultural, al dar como resultado un programa que completa una oferta inspiradora y congruente con una continuidad que profundiza en las miradas de los asistentes encontrndose con las inquietudes de quienes respaldamos la organizacin de este proyecto. Quiero reconocer la labor del gran equipo que integra esta nueva edicin, agradecer a las instituciones y embajadas, a los medios, a las marcas y empresas que le dan vida a estos nueve das de reconocimiento y contacto con un imaginario nico que, con una vocacin social y una sensibilidad particular, nos permite descubrir desde una ventana privilegiada lo mejor del cine del mundo. In behalf of the team that forms Distrital, I want to welcome you dearly; I am proud to lead a project that came up by an initiative of civil society in behalf of civil society. As in its first edition, Distrital is made up mostly by young and innovative artists who never stop dreaming and endeavor to offer a cinematic proposal that goes beyond the screens for the audience of this wonderful and diverse city. Distrital is a meeting place for filmmakers and the audience, a platform for the exhibition of Mexican and international cinema to promote and support the audiovisual expression and those worlds that exist beyond the industry. Our program, the core of the general design of our festival, pays attention to various interests to integrate a multidisciplinary point of view on film creation. Music, audiovisual experimentation and the socialization of a diversity of subjects round up to form this experience, which exceeds that of a screening as a single occasion. Thus, I would like to thank all theaters, cinema studios, museums, cultural spaces, galleries, universities, education centers, restaurants and hotels that help us. I would also like to thank those people, institutions, and sponsors who have joined in this project as strategic partners with sensitivity and responsibility in order to offer to the city the second edition of Distrital. En nombre de todo el equipo que integramos Distrital, quiero darles la ms cordial bienvenida. Es para m motivo de orgullo poder estar al frente de un proyecto que surge por iniciativa de la sociedad civil y para la sociedad civil. Al igual que en su primera edicin, Distrital est constituido en su mayora por jvenes y propositivos artistas que no dejan nunca de soar y que trabajan para brindarle al pblico de esta maravillosa y diversa ciudad una propuesta cinematogrfica que va ms all de las pantallas. Distrital es un punto de encuentro entre los cineastas y el pblico; una plataforma de exhibicin para el cine mexicano y del mundo que promueve y apoya las manifestaciones artsticas audiovisuales y los mundos ms all de las industrias. La programacin, el eje central del diseo general del festival, atiende a diferentes preocupaciones que integran una visin de la creacin cinematogrfica desde un punto de vista multidisciplinario. La msica, la experimentacin audiovisual y la socializacin de diversos temas completan una experiencia que supera la proyeccin como un evento nico. En tal sentido, quiero agradecer a todas las salas de cine, estudios cinematogrficos, museos, espacios culturales, galeras, universidades, centros de educacin, restaurantes y hoteles que nos acogen. Topografas
The word topography has two formal definitions: one is to describe and outline the land surface; the other is a group of specificities in a terrains superficial configuration. For Distrital, Topografas could be the synonym for the rest of the world, those countries that us, Latinos, refer to when they dont speak our same language. In this space, a dialogue arises seemingly by accident when we look at the crossings among topics and the ways different directors narrate them; but this, in fact, speaks of the closeness between the rest of the world and Latin America, outlining the surface of a new terrain, opening new roads and new places to discover, travelling from one country to another, crossing through different climates, spaces, forms.

Topografa tiene dos definiciones formales: una es describir y delinear la superficie de un terreno; la otra es un conjunto de particularidades que presenta un terreno en su configuracin superficial. Para Distrital, Topografas podra ser el sinnimo de el resto del mundo; aquellos pases a los que nosotros, los latinos e iberoamericanos, denominamos cuando no hablan nuestro mismo idioma. En este espacio se genera un dilogo que parece accidental cuando vemos el cruce entre temas y maneras de contarlos entre los diferentes realizadores, pero que en realidad habla de la cercana que tiene ese resto del mundo entre s e Iberoamrica, delineando la superficie de un terreno nuevo, abriendo nuevos caminos, lugares a descubrir, yendo de un pas a otro, pasando por diferentes climas, espacios, formas.

Aardvark es tal vez la primera cinta de ficcin cuyo protagonista es un ciego de nacimiento. Inspirada es su propia vida, Larry Lewis interpreta a un hombre ciego y solitario en vas de recuperacin del alcoholismo y su empeo hacia una vida estable. Tras inscribirse en una academia de jiu-jitsu, Larry encontrar a un amigo en la figura de su joven y disoluto instructor, Darren. Sin embargo, algunos aspectos perturbadores de la vida de Darren se irn revelando. Muy pronto Larry se encontrar solo enfrentando las consecuencias de un terrorfico acto de violencia. Aardvark is perhaps the first fiction film to star a man blind since birth. In a role inspired by his own life, Larry Lewis plays a solitary man recovering from alcoholism and working towards stability. When he joins a jiu-jitsu academy he finds a close friend in his young hard-partying instructor, Darren. But, as disturbing aspects of Darrens life are revealed, Larry soon finds himself alone and faced with the consequences of a horrific act of violence.

LaBruce rompe los clichs de la homosexualidad mediante una prctica irnica de auto glorificacin. En The Advocate for Fagdom testimonios e imgenes de archivo de artistas famosos, galeristas y amigos se combinan en un juego de interpretacin creando un retrato de ancdotas, teoras y confesiones. A transgressive artist and a leader in the Queercore movement, Bruce LaBruce makes small budget movies full of hardcore sex, political messages and an excessive amount of both violence and tenderness. LaBruce crushes any gay attitude clichs while practicing ironic self glorification. The Advocate for Fagdom unites testimonies with rare archive images of famous artists, art gallery owners, and friends in a game of interpretation which finally delivers a portrait of stories, theories, and confessions.

Francis y Marie son amigos cercanos, ambos se enamoran de Nicolas al mismo tiempo. Como l parece estar interesado en los dos, los amigos se vern inmersos en un torbellino de sentimientos confusos y encuentros intensos, a veces involuntariamente ridculos. Paralelamente, distintos jvenes hablan del amor en una serie de entrevistas, que sirven para ensayar una reflexin sobre el enamoramiento y sus transformaciones. Francis and Marie are two close friends who fall in love with Nicolas at the same time. Since he seems to be interested in both of them, the friends will be swept away by a whirlwind of confusion and intense rendezvous which sometimes are involuntarily ridiculous. In parallel, various young persons talk about love in a series of interviews which help to reflect about the fall into love and its transformations.

La pelcula de Clio Barnard, The Arbor, est basada en la obra de teatro de la dramaturga britnica Andrea Dunbar. La obra es un retrato de los ciclos de violencia y adiccin que Dunbar vivi. El documental de Barnard cuenta la historia de Dunbar y de la familia que dej tras su muerte prematura, especialmente la de su hija mayor quien experiment una cada similar a la de su madre. Las entrevistas de audio de la familia se convierten en los dilogos de los actores creando un doblaje narrativo nico. Clio Barnards film The Arbor is based on the theater play by British playwright Andrea Dunbar. The original play is a portrayal of the cycles of violence and addiction lived by Dunbar. Barnards documentary shows the story of Dunbar and the family she left behind after her early death, focusing in her eldest daughter whos life followed a remarkably similar downward spiral to her mother. This is a documentary uniquely told whereby audio interviews given by family members are lip-synced onscreen by actors to very powerful effect.

Fascinated by the people she meets in this new world, Prudence tries to earn a place for herself and to pretend her loneliness is really freedom.

During the free times they have in their monotonous lives, Jean-Franois devotes an awkward amount of energy to Julyvonne. The fragile balance of their relationship will be jeopardized by some dreary circumstances.

The year is 1996 and 19-year-old Katka lives in the Sananim therapy community still with hope for a normal life. But there is no happy ending here. Helena Tetkov portraits through time the downward spiral of theft, prostitution and psychological deterioration that engulfs Katka, who finally ends up getting pregnant. Will motherhood offer the life-sustaining motivation she needs?

Hoy no muchos recuerdan que, al estallar la Segunda Guerra Mundial, China y Japn ya estaban enzarzados en una guerra cruenta. El gobierno japons le dijo a su poblacin que sa era una guerra santa. En 1940, el teniente Kurokawa regresa a su pueblo convertido en hroe: todos lo llaman soldado de Dios. Sin embargo, la guerra le arranc brazos y piernas, dejndolo reducido al aspecto miserable de una oruga. Las esperanzas del pueblo descansan en Shigeko, su esposa, quien tendr el deber de honrar a su pas cuidando de Kurokawa. Not many people today remember that when wwii began, China and Japan were already engaged in a bloody war. The Japanese government had told its people it was a holy war. In 1940, Lieutenant Kurokawa returns home as a hero: everyone calls him a Soldier of God. However, war took his arms and legs, reducing him to the miserable aspect of a caterpillar. All hopes from the village men and women turn to Shigeko, the Lieutenants wife: she must honor her country by taking care of Kurokawa.

Al habitar en las vidas de diversos hombres comunes de distintas partes de Tailandia, la pelcula nos lleva por senderos confusos, recuerdos distorsionados e historias recientemente construidas. Desenterramos las piezas perdidas del rompecabezas intentando comprender por qu la democracia en Tailandia an es considerada como retrgrada y congelada. Nos engaamos al pensar que estamos en una sociedad democrtica cuando no es as? The movie is divided into seventeen unrelated segments and is a mixture of both documentary and experimental film genres. By inhabiting the lives of laymen from different parts of Thailand, the movie brings us through blurry trails, distorted memories and recently constructed histories. We unearth missing pieces of the puzzle in our attempt to understand why Thai democracy is still considered backwards and frozen. Are we deceiving ourselves that we are in a democratic society when we are not?

Un hermoso retrato de una comunidad estrechamente unida en las afueras de Baltimore. En un bar karaoke del vecindario, se renen amigos y familiares para recordar a un joven fallecido. Al no saber mucho sobre sus ltimos das, intentan reconstruir su vida. En ese proceso, abren una ventana hacia sus propias existencias. Una evocativa imagen de la clase trabajadora en los Estados Unidos, desconectada del progreso y la movilidad a su alrededor, pero unida en la bsqueda de un sueo en comn. A beautifully realized portrait of a close-knit community on the outskirts of Baltimore. At a neighborhood karaoke bar, friends and family gather to remember a young man who passed away. Knowing little about his final days, they attempt to reconstruct his life. In the process, they offer a window onto their own lives, an evocative picture of working class America, dislocated from the progress and mobility around them, but united in pursuit of a shared dream.

Leary se presentaba a s mismo como el profeta de la experiencia sicodlica que poda encontrarse al tomar LSD, que llevara a los humanos a elevar su estado de conciencia. A group of students from the University of California at Santa Cruz want to unlock the archive of famous sixties counterculture icon Timothy Leary in order to make it known for the new Internet generation. This sci-fi documentary uses both archive footage and contemporary material shot by the students. Curiously enough, Learys charisma still has a hold on contemporary youth. Leary presented himself as a prophet of the psychedelic experience, which could be brought on by taking LSD and would bring humans to a higher consciousness.

Ambas sobreviven en una relacin de amor y odio hasta que Tien revela su verdadera naturaleza. 19-year-old Ping works in a pig farm and cleans dishes in a rundown restaurant. His dream is to migrate to Japan. She lives under the custody of her aunt, Tien, who shuffles her between her two jobs. Tien is also involved in a secret baby factory scheme, pairing young women with illegal migrant workers and then selling the babies for money. In need of funds to fulfill her dream, Ping decides to go through with her aunts scheme. The two women survive with each other in a love-hate manner, until the true nature of Tien is revealed.

Meridianos is the representation of that great territory which is physically disjointed, although united by its roots and language under the name of Ibero-America, where the Latin-American countries coexist with Spain and Portugal, comprising a vast and culturally rich territory. Presenting recent films, Meridianos pans between the similarities Spanish speaking countries share (or dont share), adding the Portuguese from Brazil and Portugal and emphasizing our reality with a calculated balance between the documental and fictional genres. This way, a dialogue is created between our past, which is so present, and a future that seems so faraway from all that. The spinal cord of Latin America is represented along with films from the Old Continent. This is why Meridianos is essential to understand our idiosyncrasy, as well as the topics that move us as a society.

Meridianos es la representacin de ese gran territorio que est separado fsicamente pero que las races y el idioma lo unen, el cual lleva el nombre de Iberoamrica, donde convivimos los pases latinoamericanos junto con Espaa y Portugal formando, as, un territorio extenso y rico en cultura. Con ttulos recientes, Meridianos hace un paneo entre las similitudes que compartimos (o no) todos los pases de habla hispana, sumando el portugus que viene de la mano de Brasil y Portugal, acentuando nuestra realidad con un balance muy medido entre el gnero documental y el de ficcin, donde, adems, se genera un dilogo entre el pasado que tenemos tan presente y un futuro completamente alejado de todo eso. La espina dorsal de Latinoamrica est representada junto a obras que llegan desde el viejo continente. Based on photographs taken on the arrest of political prisoners during the Portuguese dictatorship (19261974), 48 aims to convey the mechanisms by which a dictatorial regime seeks to self-perpetuate.

Sosa trabaja en un bar, tiene 40 aos y emigr a Buenos Aires cuando era muy joven. Su vida rutinaria transcurre entre el trabajo y las horas muertas en la pensin donde vive. Un da, descubre una gastada postal pegada en un estante de la cocina del bar. Alguien le habla brevemente del cuadro representado en ella y Sosa decide ir al Museo a conocer la obra original: La vuelta del maln de ngel Della Valle. Una vez frente a la pintura, Sosa entender algunas cuestiones de su vida y finalmente intentar redimirse. Sosa works in a bar; he is 40 years old and immigrated to Buenos Aires in his early youth. His monotonous life goes by between his job and the dead hours in the guest house where he lives. One day, he discovers a worn-out postcard on a shelf of the bars kitchen. Somebody tells him about the painting depicted on it, so Sosa resolves going to the museum to meet the original: Angel Della Valles La vuelta del maln (The Return of the Indian Raid). Once he is confronted before the painting, Sosa will understand some issues about his life, and he will finally try to be redeemed.

In a small, fragile boat, Manuel de Ribera approaches a forgotten fishermen cove at a deserted island in southern Chile. Manuel is there to take possession over the land he recently inherited. Without a job, family nor money, he will gradually get more and more immersed in his surrounding environment to make his dream true: to establish a community he can call his own.

En su calidad de cronista habitual del desastre, Santiago Sierra escogi la palabra no: una negacin que poda viajar por el mundo. Con un espritu ms cercano al zeitgeist que al Genius loci, NO, Global Tour, de Santiago Sierra, lleva a cabo una sntesis entre la escultura que subraya una relacin con ambientes especficos y la letra, que puede abordar situaciones particulares. Al hacer viajar la escultura, la obra en s cambia constantemente y se traduce en una road movie pica. As a regular chronicler of disaster, Santiago Sierra chose the word no: a negation that could travel around the world. With a spirit more akin to zeitgeist than to genius loci, Santiago Sierras NO, Global Tour carries out a synthesis between the sculpture that stresses a relation to specific environments and the letter, which is able to address specific situations. By making the sculpture travel, the work itself changes constantly and is translated into an epic road movie.

Se recogen pequeas ancdotas en que se narra poticamente la lucha de cada uno por alcanzar la trascendencia: son historias sobre el amor, la tolerancia, y la lucha contra los prejuicios. This film an exercise in docufiction follows the apparently ordinary lives of three men around thirty years of age: a frustrated writer, a transsexual scholar, and a football fan who is also a Hare-Krishna. A sum of small anecdotes, it narrates poetically the struggle of each to find some sort of transcendence. These are stories about love, tolerance, and the fight against prejudices.

Pequeas voces es un documental animado basado en entrevistas y talleres de dibujo con nios colombianos de 8 a 13 aos, quienes crecieron rodeados de caos y violencia. La pelcula cuenta la historia de cuatro nios que narran sus experiencias, involucrando al espectador en la forma en que perciben su realidad. Las historias se recrean usando los dibujos originales de los nios, que comparten su viaje, sus sueos y esperanzas contra todas las probabilidades. Little Voices is an animated documentary based on interviews and drawing workshops with Colombian children from 8 to 13 years old, who have grown up surrounded by violence and chaos. The film revolves around four children who narrate their experiences, and involve the audience in the way they perceive their reality. The stories are portrayed using the original drawings by the children, as they take us along their journey, sharing their hopes and dreams against all odds.

Bianca es una excelente actriz pero el teatro no le da el dinero suficiente para pagar sus cuentas y tiene que emplearse en trabajos de poca monta. Finalmente, Bianca hace una audicin para una gran produccin internacional y consigue el papel. El director queda tan impresionado por la interpretacin de la actriz que decide escribir una nueva versin del personaje basada en Bianca. Ser sta la oportunidad de su vida? Whats the importance of luck in life? How much effort and talent is enough to guarantee a solid carrier? Bianca is an excellent actress but theater doesnt pay the bills yet; so, in order to make a living, she takes menial jobs. Finally, Bianca auditions for a big international production and gets the part. The director of the film is so impressed with her work he decides to write a new version of the character based on Bianca. Is this the chance of a lifetime?

Entre ellos, aparece el testimonio de Yoani Snchez, quien en su blog intenta construir otra forma de libertad. It is a lie I have repeated so often, I have started to believe it: I am free. Off-screen and with radical honesty, Cubans share their frustrations and lack of hope. They tell us what their idea of freedom is. Faces, voices and sounds from Havana get mixed with anonymous statements in a sort of symphony. One of these testimonies is that of Yoani Snchez, a blogger who is trying to build a new kind of freedom.

Boris se queda atnito cuando su novia, Ana, le pide que pasen un tiempo separados. l no sabe por qu y ella no puede explicarlo. Cunto tiempo deben separarse? Una semana, un mes, aos? Durante este indefinido periodo de incertidumbre, Boris queda a merced del destino. Su vida se transforma en un errtico viaje urbano en el que se muda a un hotel de paso, compra un auto de la era comunista, se reencuentra con un compaero de escuela a quien le haba perdido la pista, tiene espordicos encuentros con otras mujeres y, una y otra vez, intenta volver con Ana. Boris is stunned when his girlfriend Ana asks for some time apart. He doesnt know why and she cant explain it. Some time can mean so many things. How much time apart? A week, a month, years? During this imprecise period of uncertainty, Boris is left at the mercy of chance. His life transforms into an erratic urban journey: moving into a transient hotel, buying a communist-era car, meeting up with a long-lost classmate, random encounters with other women and repeatedly trying to get back together with Ana.

Ion es un joven espaol residente en Berln que compagina su trabajo en la famosa pizzera Due Forni con la produccin de su primera pelcula. Rueda aquello que forma su da a da: su departamento, su camino al trabajo, las calles de alrededor... y a su novia Marta que, naturalmente, se convierte en la protagonista de su pelcula... hasta que lo abandona. Ion est destrozado, pero decide seguir adelante y rodar el resto de la pelcula. Ion is a young Spanish man living in Berlin; he shuffles from work at the famous Due Forni pizzeria to the production of his first film, in which he registers his everyday life; his apartment, the road he takes to work, the surrounding streets and his girlfriend, Marta, who becomes the star of the film until she leaves him. Though devastated, Ion decides to carry on and finish his film.

Hidden among the narratives of the minorities, the workers, and the migrants in Americas society, we find the stories of millions of Mexicans who took part in the temporal labor program known as Bracero Program, which lasted from 1942 to 1964. The contemporary migration struggle is deeply related to that story.

Por su disposicin a la mezcla y el uso de nuevos recursos, su cuidado escnico y la capacidad de convertir su precariedad en fortaleza, Electrodomsticos terminara siendo uno de los grupos ms influyentes del rock chileno. In the city of Santiago in the eighties, two university students begin experimenting with new sounds such as those of blenders. Later on they meet an air traffic controller with similar interests and they decide to start a band alike none other in their country. Due to their willingness to mix and use new resources, the care they invest in staging their shows, and their capacity to turn precariousness into a strength, Electrodomsticos (Electric Aplliances) became one of the most influential bands in the Chilean rock scene.

Hoy, 40 aos despus de la separacin del cuarteto, Ricardo Caldern, de 57 aos, un excntrico coleccionista y comerciante de parafernalia Beatle, nos guiar por la obsesin que lo cobija desde nio, al introducirnos en el universo en que vive y, a las personas que como l, tienen una enfermedad incurable: son beatlemanacos. In 1965 The Beatles started their first American tour. During that trip, a note in a Mexican newspaper made a fuss: The Beatles want to come to Mexico. But the retrograde morality of the government in turn shattered this possibility. Today, 40 years after the splitting of the quartet, Ricardo Caldern, an eccentric 57 year-old collector and trader of The Beatles paraphernalia, will take us into a journey through the obsession that has sheltered him since his childhood. He will introduce us to his universe, and to people who, like him, suffer from this incurable malady: Beatlemania.

Este es un mini documental sobre el primer Festival Nrmal, el cual se llev a cabo en marzo de 2010. Este documento hiperactivo muestra la deconstruccin y eventual reconstruccin de casi 500 gigabytes de material en video, capturado por el pblico del Festival y por uno que otro camargrafo profesional. Este es un intento por recrear una secuencia de recuerdos sin una aparente lnea narrativa, salvo las conexiones mentales que uno es capaz de lograr al da siguiente, despus de una buena fiesta en Monterrey. A mini-documentary about the first Nrml Festival, March, 2010; this hyperactive documentary shows the deconstruction and eventual reconstruction of almost 500 gigabytes of video material captured by the audience of the Festival and a few professional cameramen. This is an attempt to recreate a series of memories without an open narrative plot except for those mental synapses one can still manage after a good party in Monterrey.

Un grupo de amigos emprende el viaje a las bodegas que han sido abandonadas por la recesin y en donde ahora ms de 10000 personas se renen. El director concibe esta obra tal y como aquellas fiestas se llevaban a cabo: con innovacin, pasin y un enfoque colectivo. Using archive, interview, animation and actual footage of the warehouse parties in the UK, High on Hope tells the story of the last British youth movement to threaten the establishment in the 1980s: Acid House. A group of friends journey to the warehouses abandoned because of the Recession where now over 10,000 people gather. The director conceived this film in the same way as the parties themselves were put together with passion, innovation, and a collective approach.

In songs heard throughout the island, the ghetto artists narrate a reality marked by violence and poverty. In this documentary well see Yellowman, the King of Dancehall, who became the most widely sold reggae artist after Bob Marley in the 1980s. Artists, children and people in the streets talk about the polemic contents of Dancehall lyrics and what this phenomenon represents in their lives.

In 1968, revolution was under way in a tiny club called Maxs Kansas City; there, in the middle of the underground music scene, punk rock was born to become the new sound of the world, far more influential than The Beatles. The reigning queen of Maxs was Australian journalist Lillian Roxon, a music visionary who understood before anyone else how important music would be in shaping popular culture. Lillian became known as the mother of rock and celebrated the world of popular music in her book, The Rock Encyclopedia, first published in 1969.

There are no sons & daughters without a father just as there are neither widowers without a late spouse nor ex-dictators without a previous dictatorial regime. Some sons & daughters have no further descendants of their own and some are acquired by marriage; some sons & daughters are ungrateful and there are bastards and illegitimate ones; there are sons & daughters of God; some sons & daughters are spoiled and there are prodigal and sacrilegious ones. However, all of them have parents. And thus, the first question necessary to ask in face of a collective of filmmakers who go under the name of Los Hijos is: whose sons & daughters are they? First question and first paradoxical answer. Los Hijos is a collective of filmmakers who live in Madrid (Spain); Natalia Marn, Luis Lpez Carrasco and Javier Fernndez are apparently nobodys children. They are fatherless children, orphaned children, or children who have had the desire of killing their (film) parents. Their work is unique, unprecedented and radically different to anything ever seen in Spanish cinema. Los Hijos films are critical thought and critical cinema, dialogue and irreverence, subversion and independence. If cinema-wise their parents are the untouchable totems of Spanish auteur cinema from Vctor Erice to Jos Luis Guern, passing through Mercedes lvarez and the whole New Cinema School of Barcelona the dialogue Los Hijos establish with them might be iconoclast and even irreverent but it is always well thought, clear, and critical. Not many films allow observing as clearly as Los materiales (Jean Vigo Award, Festival Punto de Vista, 2010; and a honorable mention at FIDMarseille, 2010) the thought process behind them, the intellectual not narrative plot submerged under the images, the street-wise reflection not less intelligent because of this about a specific model of documentary and filmmaking in general. On the face of those Spanish filmmakers who place themselves in the position of the most servile film buff, Los Hijos endeavor in a contemporary way of cinemaphilia, producing almost an audiovisual mash-up in which quotes are not relics but the place of origin for a new writing with non-narrative telling as the startup point and not the goal, with humor and irony as open paths to explore. Los Hijos films are apparently the end of cinema as we know it; or, at least, the end of that prehistory of cinema which the Argentinean film critic Quintn talks about and the beginning of a new phase in its history. Dismantling cinema piece by piece in a thorough and constant fashion has taken them to the root: the radical questioning of cinemas working system. Los Hijos share the tasks related with the image and sound of their films equally and they practice a form of edition similar to a digital exquisite corpse in which the project goes from hand to hand until any individual likes or dislikes are erased in favor of a collective non-auteur. Their greatest strength, independence, is also their strongest weakness; they dont live in the periphery of auteur cinema but in a parallel reality where no thought is paid to subventions, economic contributions, or grants. And the radical nature of their films is inseparable from their radical way of working in them. The novel approach offered by Los Hijos for the whole film scene is not only a innovative working system where the concept of the auteur is obliterated and a brief but solid number of works in constant expansion, but a constant formal, aesthetic, and intellectual search which includes, alongside the documentaries, a large number of short pieces distributed through their Vimeo channel (http://vimeo.com/channels/loshijos). The playful title for their internet programs, Los hijos playground, doesnt hide some of the forces that fuel their cinema: uncertainty and play, paradoxes, experimentation, the usage of referents placed out of context and an always critic dialogue with other images created by them or by others. No se es hijo sin padre, de la misma forma que no se es viudo sin mujer fallecida o ex dictador sin dictadura previa. Hay hijos sin hijos, hijos polticos, hijos desagradecidos, naturales, bastardos, no reconocidos, hijos de dios, hijos de pap, prdigos o sacrlegos. Pero todos ellos tienen padres. Por eso la primera pregunta que es necesario hacerse ante un colectivo de cineastas que se hace llamar as, Los Hijos, es: de quin? Primera pregunta, y primera respuesta paradjica. Los Hijos, colectivo de cineastas afincado en Madrid (Espaa) y formado por Natalia Marn, Luis Lpez Carrasco y Javier Fernndez, parecen no ser hijos de nadie. Hijos sin padres, hijos hurfanos, o hijos que han querido matar a sus padres (cinematogrficos). Dueos de una obra singular, indita y radicalmente diferente a cualquier cosa jams vista en el cine espaol, Los Hijos practican un cine que es a la vez pensamiento y cinefilia crtica, dilogo e irreverencia, subversin e independencia. Si sus padres cinematogrficos son los ttems intocables del cine de autor espaol, de Vctor Erice a Jos Luis Guern, pasando por Mercedes lvarez y toda la nueva escuela de cine procedente de Barcelona, el dilogo que Los Hijos establecen con ellos es iconoclasta, cuando no irreverente, pero siempre meditado, claro y crtico. Pocas pelculas como Los materiales (Premio Jean Vigo en el Festival Punto de Vista, 2010 y Mencin Especial en el FIDMarseille, 2010) dejan ver de manera tan clara el proceso de pensamiento que la recorre, el hilo, no argumental sino intelectual, que bucea bajo las imgenes, la reflexin gamberra, pero no por ello menos inteligente, que plantean sobre un modelo de documental en particular, y sobre el cine en general. Frente a cineastas espaoles que se sitan a los pies de la tradicin, desde la posicin del cinfilo ms servil, Los Hijos practican una cinefilia contempornea, casi un mash-up audiovisual, en el que las citas no son reliquias sino pies para una escritura nueva que tiene lo no-narrativo como base de partida, y no de llegada, y el humor y la irona como sendas a explorar. Las pelculas de Los Hijos parecen marcar el fin del cine tal y como lo conocemos, o por lo menos de la prehistoria del cine, en palabras del crtico argentino Quintn, y el comienzo de una nueva fase de su historia. El desmantelamiento, concienzudo y constante del cine lo llevan a la raz: al cuestionamiento radical de los sistemas de trabajo. Los Hijos comparten por igual las tareas de sonido e imagen y practican un sistema de edicin que, casi como un cadver exquisito digital en el que el proyecto pasa de mano en mano, termina por anular cualquier filia o fobia personal en favor de un no-autor colectivo. Su mayor fuerza, la independencia, es tambin su mayor debilidad: no viven en la periferia del cine de autor, sino en una realidad paralela que no piensa en subvenciones, ayudas o becas, y la radicalidad de su cine es inseparable de la radicalidad de su forma de trabajar. La novedad que han aportado Los Hijos al panorama cinematogrfico no es slo un sistema de trabajo novedoso, en el que desaparece el concepto de autor, adems de una breve pero slida obra en constante expansin, sino una constante bsqueda formal, esttica e intelectual que incluye, en la misma categora que los largometrajes, una nutrida produccin de piezas cortas que distribuyen a travs de su canal de Vimeo (http://vimeo.com/channels/loshijos). El aspecto ldico al que alude el ttulo de su programacin en internet, Los hijos playground, no esconde algunas de las fuerzas motoras que mueven su cine: el desconcierto adems del juego, la paradoja, la experimentacin, el manejo descontextualizado de referentes y el dilogo siempre crtico con otras imgenes, suyas o ajenas. In the middle of a field, an unfinished canvas apparently painted by Antonio Lpez resists (but, does it really?) the charges of weather and nature during a whole week. For the fourth consecutive year, the program Perspectivas del Cine Mexicano (Mexican Cinema Perspectives) is presented within the frame of Distrital. Cine y otros mundos. Once again, the purpose is to bring together a number of outstanding national films, both fiction and documentaries, which have been screened in recent months. In 2011 the goal is to consolidate a space where to screen films giving them thus a second chance, and to offer them a shared space to meet their natural audience. This is still an important task for the Mexican film industry. Thanks to several funds and tax incentives, film production has clearly increased in the last years. The challenge now is for these films to stay on the screens and that is why Perspectivas del Cine Mexicano must keep its film promotion effort.

El propsito es, nuevamente, reunir un conjunto de destacadas producciones nacionales, tanto de ficcin como documentales, que han sido exhibidas en los meses recientes. En este 2011, el objetivo es consolidar un espacio de exhibicin para que nuestras pelculas tengan otra oportunidad y propiciar un espacio comn de encuentro con su pblico natural. sta sigue siendo la asignatura pendiente de la industria flmica mexicana. La produccin, gracias a los diversos fondos y estmulos fiscales, ha logrado incrementarse notoriamente en los ltimos aos. El reto es su permanencia en las pantallas. Hidalgo, en su celda en la ciudad de Chihuahua, recuerda algunos pasajes de su vida, principalmente su estancia como prroco en San Felipe Torres Mochas, donde se relacion con las clases bajas y naci la idea emancipadora, tradujo y mont el Tartufo de Molire, se enamor de Josefa Quintana y se alej por algn tiempo de la vida eclesistica. At his cell in the city of Chihuahua, Hidalgo remembers some passages from his life: mainly, his time as the parish priest in San Felipe Torres Mochas, where he bonded with the lower classes and the idea of emancipation was born; where he translated Molieres Tartuffe, fell in love with Josefa Quintana, and got away for a period of time from ecclesiastic life.

Diez voces diferentes se unen para crear una visin contempornea de la Revolucin Mexicana. No se exhibe aqu una interpretacin nica de un hecho histrico sino, ms bien, un amplio abanico de aproximaciones al concepto mismo de revolucin, tanto en su sentido social como en su acepcin ms ntima y personal. Esta decena de historias intenta bosquejar una perspectiva plural a partir de universos estticos muy variados que enriquecen el imaginario colectivo. Ten voices get together to give form to a contemporary vision of the Mexican Revolution. The film doesnt show a monolithic interpretation of a historical event, but a wide range of views about the concept of revolution itself, both in its social meaning and in its more intimate, personal sense. Coming from diverging aesthetic universes, these ten stories offer a plural perspective that will make our collective imagination richer.

In the last ten years, documentary production in Mexico has increased as never before. This is a result of the historic tradition of this genre within Mexican cinema, the expressive needs of Mexican filmmakers, and the narrative and technical flexibility of the genre. In response to the request of the Mexican film community, the Instituto Mexicano de Cinematografa (Mexican Film Institute) has increased its support to documentaries in a remarkable proportion. The result is a range of featurelength films showing the most interesting and diverse subjects and narrative proposals. In this edition of Distrital. Cine y otros mundos, and of IMCINE Digital Platform, we want to show the achievements of the Fund for the Production of Quality Cinema (FOPROCINE) within its Call for the Support of Digital Documentary Production.

Es 1992, Manolo y Lalo obsesionados con la pelcula pnica de culto Alucarda, la hija de las tinieblas, afirman que es una representacin de su vida. Los dos tratan vanamente de conseguir una copia hasta que finalmente localizan al finado Juan Lpez Moctezuma, director del filme, quien est internado en un hospital psiquitrico, vctima de amnesia. Manolo y Lalo lo raptan durante tres das, le muestran sus pelculas y lo llevan a locaciones de las mismas, logrando as que el director recupere su lucidez. En pago a ello, los convierte en herederos de su obra. 1992. Manolo and Lalo, obsessed with the terror cult-film Alucarda, the Daughter of Darkness which they say is a representation of their lives try in vain to get a copy of it. During their research they find the Director of the film, the late Juan Lopez Moctezuma, in a Mental Hospital suffering from amnesia. They kidnap him for three days. They show him his films and take him to the locations, which brings back his memory. To repay them, he makes them heirs to his work.

Por motivos diversos, un grupo de migrantes nahuas de la huasteca hidalguense, se desplazan a Guadalajara donde viven actualmente. Este acontecimiento tiene un gran impacto social, cultural y econmico en Santa Cruz, su comunidad de origen. Varias historias se relacionan con esta migracin nahua: un adolescente abandon sus estudios para irse a trabajar, una experimentada migrante que logr hacer fortuna, desea emigrar a Estados Unidos y una joven que dej a sus hijos con su madre, parte para trabajar en la ciudad. For various reasons, a group of Nahua migrants from the Huasteca area of Hidalgo go to the city of Guadalajara, where they now live. This has a great social, cultural and economic impact on Santa Cruz, their community of origin. Several stories are found within this Nahua migration: a teenager who drops out of school to go work; an experienced woman migrant who has done well in business and now plans to emigrate to the United States; and a young mother who leaves her children with her mother to go work in the city.

En 2010, en medio de los festejos del Centenario de la Revolucin y el Bicentenario de la Independencia, las redes de esclavitud siguen existiendo en Mxico. 1810, Miguel Hidalgo abolished slavery in the Independent Mexico. 1910, John K. Turner published Mxico Brbaro, a book that reveals the slavery networks that operated under the dictatorship of Porfirio Daz. In 2010, amidst the celebrations for the Centennial and Bicentennial of the Mexican Revolution and Independence, the slavery networks still exist.

A travs de los desplazamientos de Pablo El Podrido Hernndez, se entretejen las historias del Cienfuegos, de Rafa Punk, de Benjamn El Costras, del Moroco, del Bho y de otros que ya no estn. Todos son adultos jvenes entre los 38 y 45 aos. A ellos los unen tres cosas: crecieron en Ciudad Neza, pertenecieron a la misma banda, Los Mierdas Punk y todos protagonizaron el documental Nadie es inocente, filmado en 1986 por Sarah Minter. 2008, Ciudad Neza and the great metropolis. The movements of Pablo el Podrido Hernndez intertwine the stories of Cienfuegos, Rafa Punk, Benjamn el Costras, Moroco, Bho, and others who are no longer with us. They are all young adults between 38 and 45. Entre ellas estaba Zenaida, de cinco aos y, que actualmente vive con problemas de la vista a consecuencia del impacto que recibi en la cabeza. Ambos viven en su propia crcel, vctimas de una guerra y de un sistema que desconocen. The two sides of the December 1997 killings in the Zapatista community of Acteal are confronted through two connected stories. Lorenzo, a wrestling gladiator, is serving out his sentence at the El Amate prison for having shot several innocent people, including five-year-old Zenaida who now, as a result of a bullet to her head, has problems with her eyesight. They each live in their own prison, victims of war and a system of which they are ignorant.

A partir de que Rosala abre su bal familiar y descubre un gran archivo integrado por fotos, recortes, rollos de pelcula, etctera, que su padre dej aos atrs antes de morir, decide emprender un recorrido en retrospectiva para conocer los orgenes del pachuquismo, llevndonos de manera cronolgica a encontrar lugares y gente que formaron parte de la obra cinematogrfica que para muchos es tema de anlisis, la de un artista llamado Tin Tan. From the time Rosalia opens the family trunk and discovers an archive of photos press clips, reels of film, and other material that her father left long before his death she decides to go on a retrospective journey to find the origins of pachuquismo, leading us chronologically to places and people that were part of the films which many people are studying today, the film work of an artist known as Tin Tan.

The film !Women Art Revolution, plus the associated graphic novel, curriculum guide and three websites, create a trans~cinema that converts information and access. Beyond the film there exist three websites, http://www.womenartrevolution.com, a graphic novel, a curriculum guide, RAW/ WAR rawwar.org and the Stanford University archive lib.stanford.edu/women-art-revolution. RAW/WAR is an uploadable website and is generated from the idea that history is about access and authorship and that we, as a global digital community, can now all participate in its creation and change the way history itself is constructed. Using new technologies, current and future generations can create their own histories, breaking the cycle of omission and erasure. Future generations can add their video, art, and information into an ongoing collaborative archive, http://www.rawwar.org. The site is a democratic community space where users can post text, images, video clips, and links that highlight the achievements and practices of women artists. RAW/WAR allows future generations participation in the creation of their own histories, refusing the fate of obscurity. RAW/WAR is a self-curated, expandable archive that will allow users to search by keywords, titles, descriptions, thumbnails etc., watch full-length videos and upload new clips. While the full clips exist to serve those who require the extended resources of a traditional archive, the site allows anyone to quickly and easily select in-points and out-points to create a shorter clip on which to comment. RAW/WAR is a living system that harnesses usergenerated content and meta-data to create a growing and self-regulated network. The democratic nature of RAW/WAR ensures that the submissions ranked of highest quality and value by participants will receive the most attention. RAW/WAR is viral. The short clips that users create from longer content can be immediately shared, posted on Twitter, blogs and other social networking platforms. No account or login information is required to access it, so anyone can create clips quickly, though accounts are freely available to those who choose to identify themselves and engage with the sites more advanced features.

Over 300 hours that would normally considered documentary out-takes from past interviews become retrievable information from the Stanford site !Women Art Revolution, this archive provides the first-person histories of the pioneering individuals who challenged the ways in which women were considered by the reigning art establishment. Available from this site are the videos, transcripts, and biographies on the interviewees as well as links to the !Women Art Revolution collection finding aid, information on the documentary !Women Art Revolution, and other feminist studies resources. Stanford University Libraries acquired the !W.A.R. collection in 2008 with the intention of making the interviews and texts available online, and is honored to bring this material to the publics attention. This website also fulfills the expressed wish of the filmmaker, Lynn Hershman Leeson, that these stories be shared with as wide an audience as possible. !Women Art Revolution is a documentary film that will annotate the evolution of the Feminist Art Movement in the United States from 1968 to the present and reveal, through interviews, art, and rarely seen archival film and video footage, how the Movement radically transformed the art of our times.The Feminist Art Movement introduced the concepts of social protest, collaboration, and public art, and it remains characteristically uncompromising in its investigations of art that directly addresses personal issues as well as the political imperatives of social justice and civil rights to eventually create what many historians now feel is the most significant art movement of the late 20th century.

After its screening in Mexico City in the early eighties, the feature film The Warriors (1979) came into life generating a network of youth gangs which divided the city into a new geography of subcultures. The series of photographic images presented in this exhibition entitled Los Guerreros/The Warriors (2007) is a research on the strong influence of the mass media which becomes evident both in the film and the local news clips reporting the start of these gangs in Mexico City in the 80s. Carlos Amorales and the members of his studio worked together with press photographers active in those times, and a sociologist specialized in Mexico City gangs, to form an archive of related images and newspaper clips. With this material, Nuevos Ricos juxtaposed a selection of the images published by the press with clips from the film to prove the amazing similarity with the newspaper archive material. Thus, the piece makes evident the transmutation of fantasy into reality.
Carlos Amorales Born in Mexico City, 1970. Between 1992 and 1995 he attends the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Amsterdam. In 1996, he continues his studies at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in the same city. Since 1997 he starts working on performance projects. In 2003, his work turns to vectorial drawing, digital animation, and videos with sound carried out in collaboration with graphic designers, communication specialists, and musicians. In 2004, he starts the record company-art project Nuevos Ricos in collaboration with Julian Lede (musician). Since 2008, he is tutor of the Rijksakademie van BeeldenKunsten (Amsterdam) and member of the National System of Art Creators (Mexico). His work is part of important collections as Tate Modern (London), The Museum of Modern Art (New York), Daros-Latinamerica (Zurich), Walker Art Center (Minneapolis), Museum Boijmaans van Beunigen (Rotterdam) and Fundacin/Coleccin Jumex (Mexico), among others. Among his many solo exhibitions, some of the most relevant are Carlos Amorales Remix, Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Rome (Italy, 2010); Vivir por fuera de la casa de uno, Museo Amparo, Puebla (Mexico, 2010); Discarded Spider, Cincinnati Art Center and Orange County Museum (USA, 2008-09); Four Animations, Five Drawings and a Plague, Philadelphia Art Museum (USA, 2008); Dark Mirror, Daros Latinamerica (Switzerland, 2007); Carlos Amorales, MALBA (Argentina, 2006); Why Fear the Future?, Casa de America (Spain, 2005) and MUCA Campus (Mexico, 2006); and Amorales vs. Amorales, Challenge 2003, Tate Modern, London (United Kingdom, 2003). La proyeccin de la pelcula The Warriors (1979) cobr vida propia en la ciudad de Mxico de principios de los aos ochenta con la generacin de toda una red de pandillas entre los jvenes que dividieron la urbe en nuevas geografas subculturales. La serie de fotografias que presenta esta exposicin, titulada Los guerreros/The Warriors (2007), es una investigacin sobre la fuerte influencia de los medios de comunicacin masiva, evidente tanto en el filme como en los recortes de los peridicos locales en los que se report el surgimiento de esas pandillas durante la dcada de 1980 en el Distrito Federal. Carlos Amorales y su estudio trabajaron con los fotgrafos de prensa de la poca y con un socilogo especializado en las pandillas de la ciudad de Mxico, reuniendo as un archivo de imgenes y notas periodsticas. Con este material, Nuevos Ricos cre yuxtaposiciones entre una seleccin de las imgenes publicadas en la prensa con imgenes del filme, probando la asombrosa similitud que mantienen con el material de archivo hemerogrfico. De esta manera la obra pone en evidencia la transmutacin de la fantasa en realidad.

The Three Grace(s) Triptych
Presentacin en vivo ADULT.
This is the first film for Detroit artists/musicians Nicola Kuperus and Adam Lee Miller. Their roots are in the visual arts; both Kuperus and Miller went to art school in Detroit (Kuperus for Photography/Miller for Painting). Soon after they met, they formed the band ADULT. in 1997. Kuperus photography quickly became the visual trademark of ADULT. It was a natural progression turning the still images into moving pictures when the duo began making their first music videos in 1995. After a handful of music videos and short films, the duo began working on Decampment in 2008. Two years later, they finished the trilogy with Traditions and Possession(s). ADULT. consider the trilogy as existing somewhere between artistic disciplines, somewhere between photography and film, where the soundtrack is as equally important as the visual, and the narrative is linear and disguised. Recently, ADULT. also completed their first soundtrack for a film they did not create entitled Open by director Jake Yuzna. Open won the Teddy Award at the 2010 Berlinale Film Festival. Kuperus has a new short video included in an upcoming touring art exhibition entitled Licker License. The Three Grace(s) Triptych was written, scored, filmed, edited and directed by ADULT. and will be screened with ADULT. performing the soundtrack live on either side of the screen. For anyone unfamiliar with ADULT. (or with this specific project), this film (and its soundtrack) is in the spirit of John Carpenter (and Alan Howarth), Dario Argento (and Goblin), or Kenneth Anger (and Bobby BeauSoleil). The Three Grace(s) Triptych focuses on an aesthetic of Midwestern horror and interdisciplinary endeavor. The Three Grace(s) Triptych was filmed entirely in Michigan and incorporates the well-known photographic style of band member Nicola Kuperus, the unusual discomfort of ADULT., as well as their signature musical sound in the original score. ADULT. have released albums on both their own Detroit label, Ersatz Audio, and the seminal Chicago label Thrill Jockey.

In 2010, Mexico City was venue of the first Hispanic-American Forum of Community Film Societies, within the Film Festival Distrital. Cine y otros mundos (Distrital. Cinema & Other Worlds). This was a space open to the discussion and reflection on issues directly related with the effort of cinema cultural promotion within community film societies. The Forum brought together voices of people in charge of grassroots work in the neighborhoods of our city, filmmakers, cultural promoters, educators, directors of alternative film-production centers, as well as government officers in charge of developing cultural policies. Once again, Distrital. Cine y otros mundos, Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil, under the production of Eje7 and Circo 2.12 AC, open a space for the Hispanic-American Forum of Community Film Societies, from the 1st to the 3rd of June. This year, the discussion will broaden to include the inner synergy between film societies and the aesthetic movements in Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula; in many occasion the two have not only walked hand in hand, but film societies have actually been at the root of many of these movements. During the three days of the Forum, specialists in film societies, education, cinema, art, and other related areas will focus on the dynamics of observation and the practice of cultural, educational, and identity rights as central themes for their discussion. Asking about the aesthetic movements in Latin America, Spain, and Portugal leads us directly to our recent history, marked by movements with social and political demands. Within that context art was and still is a tool for cultural resistance and the exploration and construction of identity. Some of the discussions at the Forum will deal with the image as both a mirror and a generator of our cultures and societies, focusing on the moving image and the fields of action opened by it. The images we produce speak of ourselves. To analyze where and how we look at these images will open the panorama in order to begin searching into themes derived from the ways in which we observe and act. In the last decade, growing violence has put Mexico into a grieving situation. Well also discuss the particular issues and challenges faced everyday by film societies in order to carry on with their projections under such conditions. Film societies are spaces for cultural promotion and management, they generate social consciousness and offer an audiovisual and aesthetic formation fit for all ages. They are natural spaces for reunion and among other things they help recovering local coexistence and collective culture, two pillars in the construction of civic identity. Within this field, education and the practice of teaching and learning offer multiple possibilities through the use of elements from various disciplines which we intend to analyze in their dynamics and interaction. Art theaters represent a statement of autonomy for the public space and their biggest asset is that they form social links facilitated by an infinite cultural network. The importance of art theaters as educative and formative spaces alternative to formal schooling is a subject which will be present in each of the talks and discussions during the Forum. To generate spaces for exchanging and learning through images is also an endeavor that ranges from the arena of cultural rights to that of human rights, because peaceful coexistence and the right to assert ones own identity are vital prerequisites for social harmony and the integral development of the communities.

En 2010, la ciudad de Mxico fue sede para el primer Foro Iberoamericano de Cineclubes Comunitarios en el marco del Festival Distrital. Cine y otros mundos. Este espacio se abri para discutir y reflexionar los temas vinculados directamente a la labor de promocin cultural cinematogrfica que ejercen desde su interior los cineclubes comunitarios. En l fueron escuchadas tanto las voces de quienes realizan el trabajo cotidiano en las colonias de nuestra ciudad, las de cineastas, gestores culturales, educadores, directores de centros alternativos para la produccin cinematogrfica, como las de quienes desde el gobierno estn a cargo del desarrollo de polticas culturales. Este 2011, del 1 al 3 de junio, Distrital. Cine y otros mundos, el Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil con la produccin de Eje7 y Circo 2.12 AC abren nuevamente su espacio para el Foro Iberoamericano de Cineclubes Comunitarios, en el que se ampliar la discusin, sobre la sinergia interna del cineclub con los movimientos estticos que en Iberoamrica los han acompaado y que, en muchos casos, son la raz de estos movimientos. Las dinmicas de la mirada y sus prcticas en torno a los derechos a la cultura, la educacin y la identidad, sern ejes temticos sobre los que profundizarn especialistas en cineclubismo, educacin, cinematografa, arte y disciplinas afines durante los tres das de trabajo. La pregunta por los movimientos estticos en Latinoamrica, Espaa y Portugal, nos lleva directamente a una historia reciente, convulsionada por movimientos de reivindicacin poltica y social. El arte en dichos contextos fue y sigue siendo, una herramienta de resistencia cultural y de construccin y exploracin identitaria. Algunas discusiones del Foro incursionarn en el territorio de la imagen como espejo y generadora de nuestras culturas y sociedades. Particularmente, la imagen en movimiento y los campos de accin que se abren a su paso. Las imgenes que producimos hablan de nosotros mismos. Analizar dnde y cmo las miramos, podr darnos un panorama para comenzar a indagar en los temas que se desprenden de nuestras formas de ver y actuar. Durante la ltima dcada, Mxico ha sufrido una escalada de violencia sin precedentes. Pondremos sobre la mesa las problemticas especficas y los desafos que enfrentan diariamente los cineclubes que deben dar funciones en tales contextos. Los cineclubes son espacios de promocin y gestin cultural, generadores de conciencia social y de formacin audiovisual y esttica para todas las edades. Son espacios naturales de encuentro que, entre otras cosas, se dan a la tarea de recuperar la convivencia vecinal y la cultura de lo colectivo, fundamentales para la construccin de una identidad ciudadana. La educacin en este mbito, las prcticas de enseanza y aprendizaje ofrecen mltiples posibilidades y ponen en juego elementos de diversas disciplinas, cuya dinmica e interaccin nos proponemos abordar. El cine club es una manifestacin pblica de autonoma sobre el espacio comn, su gran acierto consiste en la formacin de vnculos sociales tendidos por una red cultural que se despliega de forma infinita. La importancia de los cineclubes como espacios de educacin y formacin alternativos y complementarios al de la escuela formal estar presente en cada una de las charlas y discusiones a las que asistiremos durante el Foro. Generar espacios de intercambio y aprendizaje a travs de las imgenes es, adems, una labor que se extiende desde el terreno de los derechos culturales hasta el de los derechos humanos, pues la convivencia pacfica y el derecho a ejercer una identidad propia es vital para la armona social y el desarrollo pleno de las comunidades.
