Individualized Professional Growth Plan

Name: Major(s)/Minor(s):
Emma Galvin Elementary Education major with Diverse Learners minor

Why are you pursuing this degree?

I chose to pursue this degree because of my desire to make a difference in kids’ lives. I have experienced the joy and power of
learning, and I want to share that with my future students. I want to be the teacher that some of mine were for me - compassionate,
kind, inclusive, supportive, and inspirational. Education and school should be a place that fosters growth and development of
students’ gifts and talents, as well as allows them to explore academics equally - I want to be a part of making that happen.
What do you want the outcome to be?
I would like to be a classroom teacher in any grade from kindergarten to fourth grade - my elementary school teachers are still some
of the role models I admire and respect when thinking about education. I want to become a teacher who values each student for who
they are, recognizing and supporting their needs, while creating a classroom environment that makes them feel safe and welcome,
which I believe is the best learning environment.
How are you going to work toward making that outcome possible?
I am continuing to pursue a degree and licensure in Elementary Education through the College of Education at Butler University. I
am going to explore clubs related to education and working with children, as well as job opportunities that involve education in some
form. I also will look for internships or research opportunities that will increase my professional experience and expand my
professional identity. In my senior year of college, I will also have the opportunity to student teach for two full semesters, which will
help prepare me for licensure. I am also exploring education through personal reflection, observations, readings, and investigation on
my own.
**Is the outcome directly related to your WHY?
Yes - my reasons why directly translate into my desired outcome.
