METHOD STATEMENT
SCAFFOLDING Materials
All scaffolds will be constructed using standard scaffolding
materials, that is, galvanized tube, load bearing couplers and
Grade A scaffold boards, all in accordance with BS.5973/90.
The equipment will be fully serviced and checked by our
experienced yard personnel prior to leaving our yard.
All our materials will be marked with scaffolding identification
paint.
Delivery and Collection
All materials will be delivered from stock from our Beddington
Lane Branch, and will be transported to site on a vehicle suitable
for their use and having due regard for the environment in which
we shall be working.
Any surplus materials left on a day to day basis will be stacked
tidily in a space allocated.
Hand-Over
Once the scaffolding is fully erected, a competent person will
inspect the scaffold, and if ready for hand-over a hand-over
certificate will be issued, thereby releasing the scaffolding
for full use by the contractor.
Unloading/Loading of Scaffolding
While scaffolding is being unloaded or loaded from or to the lorry,
a scaffolder will be on standby directing the public away from
the danger area.
Additionally, where possible, a temporary gantry structure will
be constructed from the lorry to the scaffolding to afford
protection to the pedestrians beneath.
Erection/Dismantling of Scaffolding
Where all scaffolding is being hoisted by wheel and fall rope or
passed up the outside of the scaffolding, a scaffolder will be on
look-out duty so as to re-direct members of the public away from
the danger area.
Where possible, the pulling up and lowering of scaffolding will
take place from the temporary gantry structures before described.
Injury to Scaffolders
All scaffolders will be fully trained to execute the work that they
are undertaking and, where applicable, hard hats and safety boots
will be worn.
Construction
Lay sole boards or sole plates as necessary, dependent upon the
make of ground, and position base plates on sole boards at centres
relative to the use for which the scaffold is to be put, and fit
standards on to base plates.
Continue with erection of scaffold by fixing transoms and ledgers
with adequate bracing, erecting scaffolding one lift at a time, and
tying in as work proceeds. All scaffolding connections being made
with load bearing double couplers and/or other material to the
relevant British Standard. The scaffolding will be erected in
accordance with all current codes of practice.
As work proceeds, the materials for scaffolding at higher level
will be passed up from operative to operative, each positioned at
varying levels, or pulled up on a wheel and fall rope by labour
at ground level. The scaffolding will be boarded out using Class A
boards, providing the necessary amount of boarding as required by
the contract, and boarding out as the work proceeds.
The dismantling process will be as above but in reverse order.
Ties
A) In order to comply with construction regulations and BS 5973 the
scaffold must be tied to the permanent structure at the
recommended intervals.
B) When through ties are being used it will be your responsibility
to obtain or give permission to provide necessary openings to
weatherproof make secure and to make good afterwards.
C) We will carry out the necessary drilling and fixing and assume
that all permission has been granted. If there are any restrictions
regarding the type of tie or positions these are to be notified
to us in writing prior to commencement. If variations to the
proposed tying method have cost implications we reserve the right
to make additional charges,
D) We can accept no responsibility whatsoever for damage to the
building or consequential costs arising as a result of fixing or
use of anchorages.
E) We have allowed to physically tie the scaffold to the building
only once. Any subsequent movement or re-fixing will be charged
as an extra.
General Points
Where scaffolds are tied into structures, any such ties must
not be tampered with.
We must reserve the right to revise our quotation if a licence
imposes conditions which involve additional expense to us.
The Client to provide a firm and level base for our scaffold that
will not settle or deflect under the imposed load of our
structure and any load applied thereon. Base to extend at least
300mm past the outside of the scaffold. Our offer does not include
for any foundations, or propping scaffold below pavement and/or
base level. Client to ensure pavement/base will safely support
the load of our structure and any loads applied thereon.
Should you subsequently wish to fix tarpaulins or other protective
sheeting to the scaffold we must point out that extra ties will
be needed.
Please note that the protection fan is for protective purposes
only and should not be loaded out or used as an access scaffold.
You are to ensure that the roof will safely support the load
imposed by our scaffold and any load applied thereon.
Because of the very nature of this sheeting and/or netting or the
like we must point out that our price allows for the supply and
fixing once only.
The customer to obtain permission for us to have access to or
erect from and/or over adjoining property.
Every effort will be made to dismantle the scaffold to suit your
programme of demolition but we cannot be held responsible for any
accident which is caused by the premature removal of ties by you.
AT NO TIME should there be more than 3.6m of free standing scaffold
above the existing ties.

GANTRY AND HOIST

We will attend site with sufficient skilled labour to
execute the contracts works in a diligent manner.
Lay scaffold boards as sole plates for gantry structure,
and place base plates upon sole boards and fit standards on
to base plates. Span from one row of standards to the other
using tubes or modular unit beams as necessary, using load
bearing double couplers as fixings. The rows of modular unit
beams will be laced and braced with tube and fittings to
make a solid safe structure. Place Class A boards on top of the
unit beams and further lay polythene sheeting on top of the
bottom layer of boards. Complete the structure by placing
another layer of Class A scaffold boards on top of the polythene.
Thereby affording more protection to the public beneath.
The dismantling process will be as above in reverse.
TEMPORARY ROOF
We will attend site with sufficient skilled labour to execute
the necessary contract work in a diligent manner.
Extend existing scaffold upwards to form support scaffold for
new temporary roof structure, using the techniques as before
described.
Once the support scaffold has been erected we shall span from
one support scaffold to the other with modular unit beams, bolted
together and erected in rows, these rows of unit beams will be
fully laced together and connected with purlins of galvanized
tube. All fixings to be used will be low bearing double couplers
and/or other fittings in accordance with British Standard.
After the frame work has been erected we shall lay corrugated iron
sheeting on top of the temporary structure to be fixed with
sheeting clips and a mat of tube and fittings will be fixed on
top of the sheeting to act as a restraint. Monarflex plastic
sheeting will be clad once only to the outside support scaffolding
if required by the contract. All materials will be hoisted up by
hoist present on site.
The dismantling process will be as above but in reverse.
ROOF/DORMER/GUTTER WORKS
The plant and materials will be taken to the roof areas by
means of a hoist.
All waste material will be lowered to the ground by means
of a hoist.
It is envisaged that the work force will consist of asphalters
labourers and one potman appropriate to the contract.
The asphalt pot, which is under the control of the potman,
will be placed on a metal tray positioned suitably to spread
the weight on the roof area.
The asphalt is then taken in buckets and passed onto the
asphalters to carry out the said works.
All operatives will be wearing appropriate protective clothing
whilst on site.
Fire extinguishing foam will be at the fire point adjacent to
the asphalt pot.
The propane bottles will be sited 6.0 m from the asphalt pot
except the one being used which must be 2.0 m from the asphalt
pot and all propane bottles will be stored in a safe covered
compound when not in use and locked.
All materials will be B.S. products as per the specification
and fixed to the code of practice required.
The Site Foreman will be responsible for ensuring that this
statement is adhered to.
LEAD WORKS
The plant and materials will be taken to the roof areas
by means of a hoist.
All waste material will be lowered to the ground by means
of a hoist and removed.
The work force will consist of lead workers and labourers.
The propane bottles that will be used by the lead workers
will be stored in a safe covered compound when not in use
and locked.
All materials will be B.S. products as per the specification
and fixed to the code of practice required.
The Site Foreman will be responsible for ensuring that this
statement is adhered to-
METHOD STATEMENT
TIMBER AND DECORATION WORKS
The plant, equipment and materials will be taken to roof
areas by hoist.
All waste material will be lowered by hoist.
The work force will consist of Carpenters, Joiners, Decorators
and Labourers.
All timber will be treated as per specification.
All window joinery will be constructed in our joinery shop
off site at our offices and factory and yard.
All Health and Safety conditions will be followed.
All materials will be B.S. products.
The Site Foreman will be responsible for ensuring that this
statement is adhered to
