MID TOWN MALL – SOLO 16

2.1 Introduction:
Contract Analysis Aims to compare project contract with standard
contract form to know what risks might arise. The standard form we
follow is “YELLOW FIDIC 2017“

2.1.1 FIDIC:

FIDIC aims to represent globally the consulting engineering field by

promoting the interests of firms/engineers supplying technology-based
intellectual services for the built and natural environment.

2.1.2 Types of FIDIC:

The most common types:

Red book:

for Construction projects designed by the employer in this contract form,

the contractor constructs the works in the accordance with a design
provided by the owner

Yellow book:

for Design-Build projects. In this Type the contractor design and

construct the works in the accordance with the owner.

Green book:
for short-form agreements: Recommended for building or engineering
works of small capital value.

Silver book

In this form, the contractor is responsible for the design and the execution
of the project with little involvement from the employer.

4.1 Construction Strategy

Introduction:

We will discuss the strategy for excavation and wooden wedges for the slabs

The site including mall location:

MID TOWN MALL – SOLO 64

The mall:

The site of the mall divided into six zones for excavation:

Material storage:

There is a way parallel to the mall behind it not in front of the mall

This way used to be the material storage of the whole location construction

The black line is for storage and the red line is an opening between the mall and the
site to make it easier moving between the mall and rest of the site

MID TOWN MALL – SOLO 65

They used to excavate for the first two zones (zone1 and zone2) then the second wo
zones then the third and last two zone in the mall

The way excavated to get the equipment's in and outside from the site for the first two
zones

MID TOWN MALL – SOLO 66

For wooden wedges:

In order they excavate the first two zones they used to start footing in them while the
second two zones are being excavated

MID TOWN MALL – SOLO 67

The contractor don’t have much wooden wedges for all of the site so he starts by the
first and second zone after finishing its excavation to save time as after finishing
excavation for the third and fourth zones the footing will be finished and started with
new excavated zones and so on until they finished excavation and footing for all
zones and starts with the basement slab for the first zones

The footing for the first two zones after being excavated

4.3 Method Statement

INTRODUCTION:

Method statements are hugely important when it comes to the health and safety of
projects, particularly in the construction industry. These documents are used alongside
risk assessments to make sure certain high-risk tasks and activities involved in a
project are safe. But what is a method statement and why is it important?

Method statements are documenting that detail exactly how to carry out work safely.
When it comes to ensuring building site health and safety, method statements are key.

Purpose of the method of Statement:

• Estimation of the required resources, labor, skills, and duration for individual tasks.

• Plan the activity to be completed efficiently.

• Identifying any interactions among different work tasks.

• Identifying legal requirements.

• Prediction of possible problems.

• Determination of measures to be performed to control the risk.

Procedure :

Excavation in asphalt soil below the foundation level for drainage wells and elevator
wells

All construction elements that need to be drilled according to the dimensions shown
in the paintings for

Recommendations of the soil report prepared by the owner's consultant, or the work
includes reaching the required level with the settlement of the drilling floor and
spraying it with water and compaction to obtain the highest dry density (not less than
98%) with the transfer of drilling output to the inside of the worksite.

And we are the work according to the engineering specifications and the origins of the
industry and the instructions of the supervisory body

[geometric scaling]

• Excavation for the mall is being done for all areas, with soil replacement of 26810,
cubic meters to reach foundation level at (-7.5 m) blew ground zero level

• The excavator will use the approved plan and drawings to know where to dig.

• The compaction test report shall be submitted to the Engineer for approval prior to

• How deep they dig will depend on several factors, like the type of foundation and if
there will be a crawl space or a basement.

• Before the compaction starts, it shall make sure that the excavated level is free from
standing water or excessive moisture content.

• Inspection would be conducted during compaction for checking and approval of the
Engineer.

MID TOWN MALL – SOLO 73

Risks :
• A worker accidentally fell into an excavation

• A worker being trapped by the collapse of an excavation.

• A falling object striking a worker in an excavation.

• A worker in an excavation being exposed to an airborne contaminant.

• A worker being engulfed by the influx of water into the excavation.

In order to manage these risks, the following must also be considered:

• The nature of the excavation

• The type of the excavation work, including the various ways in which that work
could be carried out

• Entry and exit from excavation sites, where applicable.

• For all excavation activities, adequate safety barriers, signboards, andwarning signs
would be used.

Safety:

1. Supervision and Inspection

Practising proper supervision during formwork placement, concrete pouring, and
stripping of formworks is essential for obtaining safety in the use of forms. A
supervisor's task is to ensure the erection of formwork according to the design and
practising a safe erection procedure to avoid overloading of members.

Filed modification in the falsework, forms, or erection procedure should be permitted

unless the form designer is consulted. The exertion of unusual loads shall be
prevented if the formwork system is not designed for such loads.

2. Platforms and Access for Workers

Accessible working platform shall be prepared for works executed at elevated
positions. Long ladder to the tops of falsework needs to have rest or passing platform.
In certain structures such as bridges, it might be necessary to use special scaffolds or
any other suitable equipment for stripping decks and piers forms.

MID TOWN MALL – SOLO 83

Safety signs and barriers should be placed to keep the unauthorized individuals out of
the working area during erection and striping formwork system. Platforms and access
means for worker need to conform with applicable codes such as OSHA
requirements. The provision of accessible and safe working area can be provided if
engineers and experienced field personnel cooperate with each other.

3. Control of Concreting Practices

Controlling concrete pouring is a major factor in the safety plan establishment. The
sequence and rate of concrete placement should consider limitations provided in the
formwork drawings.

While concrete is placed, unbalanced form loading shall be prevented. For

instance, in beam and slab construction, fill the beams first and then work
outward equally on both sides when placing the slab. The stability of the
formwork system can be enhanced in a column-and-slab structure by
concreting the columns at least a day ahead of the slab.

4. Improving Soil Bearing and Bracing

Commonly, the condition of soil is not known when the forms and scaffoldings are
designed; assumed bearing capacity is used. So, it would be the task of contractor to
check whether the bearing capacity of the soil at construction site is greater or smaller
than the one assumed during design stage. If soil bearing capacity is questionable,
then it can be stabilized by tamping or covered with layer of crushed stone.
Formworks shall be designed to prevent progressive collapse due to localized failures.

5. Shoring and Reshoring

Installation of out of plumb shores, bent jacks, and defective timber shall be avoided
otherwise these supporting elements would support only a small portion of design
loads. During Concreting, forms shall be monitored continuously in order to observe
problems and correct them as soon as they arise.

5.1 Risk Identification

INTRODUCTION :
There are multiple sources of risk. For risk identification, the project team
should review the program scope, cost estimates, schedule (to include
evaluation of the critical path), In addition, historical data from similar
projects, stakeholder interviews, and risk lists provide valuable insight
into areas for consideration of risk. Risk identification is an iterative
process. As the program progresses, more information will be gained
about the program, and the risk statement will be adjusted to reflect the
current understanding. New risks will be identified through the project
life cycle.
