Recently , The Union Cabinet approved the creation of
the 22nd Law Commission, with a term of three years.

हाल ही में केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडल ने 3 साल की अवधि के साथ 22वें ववधि आयोग के
गठन को मंजरू ी दी थी ।
 About the Law Commission
The Law Commission is a non-statutory body constituted by
the GoI, every three years.
विधि आयोग हर तीन साल में भारत सरकार द्िारा गठित एक गैर साांविधिक ननकाय है ।

Its major function is to work for legal reform and works as an

advisory body to the Ministry of Law and Justice.

The first Law Commission of Independent India was constituted in

1955 with Mr. M. C. Setalvad, as its Chairman.
हालाांकक, स्ितांत्र भारत के पहले विधि आयोग का गिन 1955 में श्री एम सी सीतलिाड़ के अध्यक्ष के रूप में ककया गया ा ा ।

 22nd Law Commission (22वां ववधि आयोग)

1. A full-time Chairperson (usually who is a retired Supreme Court judge or

Chief Justice of a High Court)
2. 4 full-time Members (including Member-Secretary)
3. Secretary, Department of Legal Affairs as ex-officio Member,
4. Not more than five part-time Members
5. Secretary, Legislative Department as ex officio Member,

The 21st Law Commission, under Justice B.S. Chauhan, was
established in 2015 and had tenure to August 31st 2018.
जस्स्र्स बीएस चौहान के नेतत्ृ व में 21वें ववधि आयोग की स्थापना 2015 में हुई थी और इसका कायणकाल
31 अगस्त 2018 तक था।

The first Law Commission was established during the British Raj era in 1834
by the Charter Act of 1833 and was chaired by Lord Macaulay.

पहला ववधि आयोग 1834 में त्रिहर्श राज युग के दौरान 1833 के चार्ण र अधिननयम द्वारा
स्थावपत ककया गया था और इसकी अध्यक्षता लॉडण मैकाले ने की थी।
 Major Function
Identify laws which are no longer needed or relevant and can be immediately
repealed.
ऐसे कानूनों की पहचान करें जिनकी अब आिश्यकता या प्रासांधगक नह ां है और उन्हें तुरांत ननरस्त ककया िा सकता है

Consider and convey to the Government its views on any subject relating to law and
judicial administration that may be specifically referred to it by the Government through
Ministry of Law and Justice.
काननू और न्यानयक प्रशासन से सांबांधित ककसी भी विषय पर सरकार के विचारों पर विचार करें और उन्हें अिगत कराएां
जिन्हें सरकार द्िारा कानन
ू और न्याय मांत्रालय के माध्यम से विशेष रूप से इसका उल्लेख ककया िा सकता है ।

Revise the Central Acts of general importance so as to simplify them and remove
anomalies, ambiguities, and inequities.
सामान्य महत्ि के केंद्र य अधिननयमों को सांशोधित करें ताकक उन्हें सरल बनाया िा सके और विसांगनतयों, अस्पष्टता और
असमानताओां को दरू ककया िा सके
