Home-made “Be Calm” candles

The usage of candles for heat and lightning is known to have existed since ancient
times, often used by the Ancient Egyptians. “The earliest use of candles is often
attributed to the Ancient Egyptians, who made rushlights or torches by soaking the pithy
core of reeds in melted animal fat.” Various remains of candles have also been found in
different caves of European countries like France. It’s a common belief that cavemen
used candles while painting and engraving on walls, to be able to light their surface of
the dark caves.

Nowadays, candle making is a common hobby and fun way to make crafts. For some
people, candle making is also a profitable business opportunity. Candle making is also
an opportunity to let our creative side flow because you are able to make colorful
designs for all types of occasions. Size, color and shape isn't a limit, candles have
become a common device to fill the room with light, fragrance and personality. Candles
can also incorporate different aromas that please all kinds of people, this characteristic
has also become more popular instead of using candles for light, since for that we now
have lamps. Some candles give off interesting smells such as chocolate, vanilla,
flowers, fruits, cinnamon, coffee, and other natural smells. The actual body of the candle
is made of a material called “Paraffin Wax”. Paraffin wax is a natural wax that comes
from plants.

A wick is also an important material to make a candle, the wick is placed in the center of
the wax, and it serves the purpose of a thin but powerful string made of braided fibers.
An important part of candle making is safety, since the temperature of the hot wax can
result in various severe burns on our skin and clothes. Also, the risk of fire is very high
when the candle is placed in the wrong spot, the candles have to be strategically set up
in an area you can easily fire extinguish.
Once you are able to understand and make your own candle, the process will end up
being a relaxing process for you, making a useful artifact while having fun. ”After making
your first candle, you can get more adventurous and try making different types of
candles; be sure to choose the appropriate wax and wick for a more advanced
project.”(David Fisher). A relaxing activity like this is also accessible for all people, since
the price of the materials needed for candle making isn't expensive and they’re sold in
various places that everyone can go to.
