OFFERS MASTER'S DEGREE PROGRAMS IN INDIA SINCE 1997

BRIEF Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago ( IIT-C) , established in 1890, is a well Known private PhD granting, First Tier Research University in Chicago, USA . Well known for its interaction with Industries, this University has its own research Center, called IIT Research Institute ( IITRI). This University has been offering programs and courses through Distance Education mode (" CLASS ROOM TEACHING FROM Chicago campus to Remote students as Called by Members of AICTE.") using Microwave transmission, for the benefit of working professionals of Industries situated in and around Chicago area, since 1976. Commensurate with the period, Internet Technology and streamed video are used to make available the lectures delivered at Chicago campus, to students in India. So far more than 300 engineers have successfully completed the Masters Degree & got the same Degree certificate from IIT Chicago. However engineers may opt for doing the Masters at ON campus in Chicago OR On line programs in India OR Hybrid Option of completing few courses (out of 10 courses) in India & rest in Chicago campus. TEACHING METHODOLOGY AND EXAMINATIONS (For Online Option)

It is a CLASS ROOM TEACHING FROM CHICAGO CAMPUS. All Courses (called as Subjects in India) are entirely taught by professors in Chicago campus, by using Hi-Tech E learning Technologies. Generally professors will have a small class room concepts with strength of about 25 to 30 students in each class. Students in India are considered on the strength of Chicago class room only. Professors will take only one lecture of 3 Hrs per course in a week. Totally they will take 14 to 16 lectures in each semester. Moment the Lecture is completed on a particular day in a week, the very same Lecture is up loaded on IIT Chicago Server (Black board). Students can attend these lectures by logging on to BLACK BOARD, with a given user name & pw, from any where in the world any number of times. They can clarify their doubts by sending E-mail questions to Professors who will answer them quickly. Also students can talk to Professors telephonically by taking an appointment. For such talks, Students can use toll free telephones in our centers in India. Students have to complete their assignments, projects etc given by each professor with in the specified date/time & submit it to our centers for onward dispatch to Chicago by courier. Also LIVE-ON-SITE courses are organized where in a professor from IIT Chicago visits India and conducts classes. Video / Audio conferences and E-mail are the modes of interactions with Professors at Chicago. All courses, examinations and assignments including projects are conducted and

evaluated by professors at IIT Chicago only. Masters program can be attended completely either in India or in Chicago, or partly in India and partly in Chicago. (One has to successfully complete minimum 10 such courses of total 30 credit hours to be eligible for the Master Degree)
In 1997, at the Invitation of Motorola India Electronics Limited, IIT-C started offering Information Technology related Master's programs in Bangalore, after obtaining proper Government approval. To facilitate co-ordination of the programs and courses offered, IIT- C had set up its wholly owned Subsidiary, Illinois Institute of Technology ( India) Private Limited {IIT-I}. In the next few years, more programs and courses were offered in a few additional locations like Chennai, Hyderabad, Delhi, Pune, Mumbai & Coimbatore. Accreditation :- IIT Chicago is accredited by the North Central Association (NCA) of Colleges and Secondary Schools in USA. Specific professional curricula are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission and the Computing Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). IIT-Chicago has been offering following Master's Degree programs in India since 1997 for the benefit of various companies & Engineers.

Companies like Motorola , Honeywell, Oracle, Godrej, Sasken, Kirloskar, Cisco, Juniper Networks, Agere systems, Philips, Qualcomm, IBM, Intel, Verisign, Indicus Software , Tektronix etc sponsor their engineers. The companys sponsorship (or fee reimbursement policy of companies) varies from 25% to 100% for these programs. Other clients are, Tech Mahindra, Infosys,Wipro, Net App, Robert Bosch, L&T, TCS, Siemens, Samsung, HCL, HP. Cognizant, Kawasaki Microele, Logica,Texas Instruments, Tata Elxsi, EMC, Alcatel-lucent,Nokia, Karmic etc. The University also offers CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS in all the above streams with only 3 to 5 courses of Masters Programs. Certificate Program students will attend the classis along with Masters Program students only. If required one can continue with Masters program after completing the certificate program provided they have CGPA in certificate courses. Salient Features of the Master's Programs of IIT-Chicago offered in India are :(a)Eligibility criteria for Admission are same in India/ Chicago. (b) Courses & Course curriculum offered for India program & campus are one & the same. (c) Teaching Methodology at Chicago/ India is the same.

(d) Students in India and in campus at Chicago do the same Assignments, Projects, and Examinations etc. Only faculty concerned at Chicago evaluates all these. (g) Tuition Fee:- Students in India are charged less than 50 % of Tuition Fee as compared to campus students. ( Total tuition for Masters Degree Program of 10 courses, known as subjects in India, is US $ 10,020/- to be paid to IIT Chicago in installments @ $ 1002/- per course of 3 credits, where as total Tuition fee for same 3 credit course at Chicago is $ 3168/ & total tuition fee for 30 credits is $ -31,680/ ). (h) One can commence the Masters in India & complete it in Chicago or completely do it in India & get the same Masters Degree from IIT Chicago. g) A few of the special facilities available to remote students are listed below. Academic Search Premier One of the largest full-text databases of scholarly information. A good place to start searching for journal articles on almost any topic. As an example, under the Academic Search Premier, full access to the abstract & full text of papers via IEEE Xplore Conferences, online access to the IEEE Xplore journals and the IEEE SERIES which covers most of the conferences and proceedings in different industry technology streams. Business Source Premier This database covers all disciplines of business, including marketing, management, MIS, POM, accounting, finance and economics. CSA Technology Research Database Comprehensive ber-database covering all aspects of technology, engineering, materials science, and electronics. Inspec Comprehensive database covering all aspects of science, engineering, and technology. JSTOR Archive of essential scholarly journals related to the humanities, physical sciences, and social sciences. In addition there are plenty of Research Tools available online for the students. Potential of our Graduates: In the past, a few managers, appreciating the ability of Our Graduates, who are working professionals, tasked them in advanced and newer areas. The outcome in each case was REMARKABLE. A few instances are quoted: A team of 3 members, significantly contributed in developing a GPS receiver. Another team of 5 students developed a heat exchanger for space application and patent was sold to a German company. Another student developed advanced security coding features for a forthcoming mobile phone These were possible only when the Managers under whom they worked Tasked them

ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS Applicant must possess First class (60%) in each semester in RELATED BRANCH of B E / B Tech program, or MCA or M.Sc (CS, IT, Electronics etc). GRE is required & TOEFL IS EXEMPTED *Students in the Final Semester may also apply. They should produce proof of successful completion of the degree within 30 days of commencement of Masters Program. *Students without GRE, may commence the Masters program by opting for conditional admission ( Non Degree admission) and continue with rest, after producing GRE score. ADMISSION All applications for Admission are processed at IIT Chicago only by the Departmental Admission Committee and the admission decisions would be intimated at least 3 weeks prior to commencement of the semester.
