METHOD OF WORK
LOADING & UNLOADING MATERIALS

1. TOOLS
- Sling, Manila Rope, Safety Signs/ Yellow Line/ Safety Cone.
- Protective Personal Equipment (Helmet, Safety Google, Safety Shoes, hand
gloves.

2. STAGES OF WORK
2.1 Preparation of Work Materials & Equipment
- Clean and prepare the work area.
- Collect equipment to be used.
- Inspect and test the vehicles to be used to transport materials and
equipment.

2.2 Mobilization of Manpower & Materials


- Conduct site observation of the area to be traversed and then prepare it in
the form of a Journey Management Plan (it is clear the conditions to be
traversed and the dangers that may arise).
- Vehicle operators must obey traffic signs.
- Vehicle operators always apply the Smith System theory in driving.

2.3 Work Preparation


- Before going to the job site, make sure that all safety devices are properly
installed.
- Observe the potential hazards around the work site and take preventive
measures (eliminate the potential hazard or at least reduce the potential
hazard).
- Make sure the area / environment is safe.
- Comply with all work safety systems applied
- Ensure that safe working methods or methods from and to the work site
are understood by all workers by providing sufficient information,
direction, and training so that workers' competencies meet occupational
safety standards.

2.4 Work Execution


Material Loading :
- The driver parks the vehicle in a safe place outside the area where the
material is to be transported
- Drivers, swampers and area supervisors discuss and ensure the condition
of the area and cargo to be loaded in good and safe condition
- The driver places his vehicle in the loading area according to the signal
given by the swamper.
- The driver applies the parking brake (hand brake), do not park the
vehicle on the descent or climb
- Swamper rises to the top of the tub or is next to the tub door to open the
pen or peg.
- Materials to be loaded, transported by means of tools or manually into
the vehicle body.
- The driver and swamper re-check that the load is perfectly tied, the
tailgate door has been locked again, the vehicle is in good condition and
the area is safe for the vehicle to be dispatched.
- The driver ensures that the handbrake is released before departing.

Material Unloading :
- The driver parks the vehicle safely in the area where the material is
unloaded (work location) according to the instructions given by the
swamper and immediately installs a safety sign.
- Drivers and swampers as well as field supervisors discuss and ensure the
condition of the area and cargo to be unloaded is in good and safe
condition
- The driver applies the parking brake (hand brake) when parking.
- Swamper rises to the top of the body of the vehicle or is next to the body
door to open the pen or peg.
- Materials to be dismantled, transported by means of tools or manual
labor out of the vehicle's body
- After the disassembly is complete, do not forget to relock the tailgate
door.

Housekeeping
- Before leaving the work site, position materials and equipment in a safe
and correct place.
- Ensure that there is no more garbage and materials scattered on the work
site.
- Remove all safety signs.
