Concept Notes

Human Person as a Being-at-the-World


a. Man’s existence is not a passive existence in the world. He is a being at the world. He does not
live in the world. He has the ability to appreciate, to work over the world, to transcend it and to
break through it.
b. Man exist as a being at work in the world. And the world becomes the fruit of his labors
subconscious mind, his inmost thoughts and his inmost feelings.
c. Man’s brain reveals the workings of his inner self. This manifest the way man controls the
destruction of disorder.

Environmental Disorders: Global Warming and Climate Change


a. A human person is a creature in the world – a part of the cosmic environment. Man and all things
in the environment are equally significant in the world. They are coexistent and the paralysis is
any dimension of the cosmic environment might threaten or risk the whole system including man.
b. Pollution occurs in land, water and air. It affects all forms of life, including that of man.
c. Human exploitation of the environment leads to the increasing amount of carbon dioxide and other
pollutions that trap sun’s heat in the atmosphere that causes the Earth to warm up.

Global Warming – is an increase in the average temperature of Earth’s atmosphere.


Climate Change – is the build-up of the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, significantly changing the
normal or expected weather patterns and conditions in specific regions of the Earth.

Exercise A ( Group Work)


1: Look around from where you are right now. Interview 2 persons of different generations
ahead of you and ask a common place to both of them and let them describe their environment from their
perspective if there were changes or any improvement and write them down inside the table.
