Professional Elective 2 – Assignment #2

1. Why is the study of individual differences, mental ability, and personality an important activity?
The study of individual differences, mental ability, and personality is an important activity because
not all of humans are similar to one another. I have a twin, we both share the same womb but as we grow
up, we knew that we are different from each other. We grew up sharing the similarities we have but we
know and understand each other’s differences. Therefore, studying this and understanding this helps us
comprehend more of a person’s personality and how they act and feel towards a certain or variety of
situations. Making this an important activity in my life helps me to talk to other people, I can observe
their emotions and help me widen my perspective about why they feel that way in certain situations. Our
personality differs us from others and understanding and studying someone’s personality gives us clues
about how they are as a person, act and feel in different situations.
2. What is meant by " individual differences"?
Individual differences refer to the variation of how people respond and feel about the same situation they
are facing with other people. The main focus is that we have different personalities, and as a person we
are different from one another although we face the same situation. Our acts, feelings, and how we
respond are making us different and helps us to do better as a person.
3. What are the consequences of having people with individual differences working together in an
organization?
The consequences of having people with individual differences working together in an organization are:
1. Sharing different ideas and opinion
2. People differ in productivity
3. Quality of work varies because of different personalities
4. People react differently to certain problems arising the organization
5. People differ in terms of being committed to the organization
4. What is meant by " aptitude"? by "ability"?
Aptitude is the natural ability to learn or perform in a specific area. This can mean that a person does not
yet fully develops his potential, it lays dormant inside a person until he realizes that he has a potential and
should make use of it. Ability is the quality or state of being able, it can also be defined as the power to do
something. It is possessed at the present moment. The differences of the two are, aptitude is used in the
sense of “talent” and ability is used in the sense of “skill”.
