Aanya patted the tender elephant calf as it was trudging

past the village to peer its way into another jungle. Just an
hour back, a couple of poachers had manged to spot the
mother and the baby. The ruthless two immediately fired at
elephants and the mother was gravely injured by the few
bullets which had pierced the otherwise seeming
impenetrable inch thick skin.
The mother indicated her child to flee at once as she
covered her baby from another few shots, taking it all for
herself. The baby did not want to leave his mother to her
fate, but reluctantly, he dashed towards the opposite side.
One of the poachers rushed to get hold of the baby but
suddenly, a young girl popped out of the blue.
Aanya blocked the vision of the poacher by flinging sand at
his eyes. The elephant calf at seeing the poacher disarmed
down on the ground desperately wanted to charge at the
poacher and get its revenge. But the girl instructed it to run
with her as fast as it could as the second poacher would be
there very soon.
Keeping its desire for venge aside, he followed the advice
of its little saviour and followed her out from the lush green
jungles to the sandy and clamorous village streets, from
where he had to now find a way to another jungle to take
cover for some time on its own.
After the elephant thanked Aanya with a what appeared
to be a grateful low frequency trumpet and plodded past her,
her innocent mind pondered about how cruel the world is.
She was astonished to see how commercial profits could
drive such malicious acts of brutality. She raised her
shoulders in a sense of acceptance and carried on with her
usual life.
