9.2. Vietnamese-English Translation Practice:

1. Mozambic là quốc gia có dân số trẻ, khoảng 15 triệu

người, trong đó 52% là nữ giới. 43% dân số Mozambic
nằm trong độ tuổi đi học 6 - 24 tuổi. Đây là quốc gia có
nhu cầu giáo dục lớn so với các nước trong khu vực.

Mozambic is a country that has a young population of

about 15 million people, of which 52% are female. 43% of
Mozambic’s population is at the school age of between 6
and 24 years old. This is a country with a great demand
for education in comparison with other countries in the
region.

2. Vừa qua đại sứ quán Pháp tại Việt Nam quyết định
dành 17 suất học bổng 2 tuần tại Pháp cho các em học
sinh lớp 12 có điểm hạnh kiểm tốt, kết quả học tập loại
giỏi đối với tất cả các môn bằng tiếng Việt và tiếng Pháp,
ưu tiên cho các em không đăng ký tại một trường đại học
tại Pháp hay tại khối Pháp ngữ.

Recently, the French Embassy in Vietnam offered to spend

17 2-week scholarships in French to 12th grade students
with good conduct and excellent academic results in all
subjects in Vietnamese and France. Priority gave to
students who didn’t registered at a university in France or
in the Francophone.

3. Một người mẹ có học sẽ có khả năng kiếm sống và có

nhiều cơ hội hơn để lựa chọn. Người mẹ có học sẽ có ít
con hơn và con cái sẽ khỏe mạnh hơn. Những người mẹ
có học sẽ quan tâm hơn đến sự phát triển của tất cả các
con và đảm bảo cho con gái cũng như con trai cùng có
được cơ hội học hành.
An educated mother will be able to to gain living and have
more opportunities to choose. She will have fewer children
who are healthier. Educated mothers are more concerned
with the development of all the children and ensure the
chance to study for both of their daughters and sons.

4. Tại nước cộng hòa Jamaica, tỉ lệ không biết chữ của

dân chúng là khá cao, và tỉ lệ này khác nhau ở những
nhóm tuổi, giới tính và môi trường địa lý. Tỉ lệ người
không biết chữ của nhóm dân số trên 65 tuổi cao hơn rất
nhiều so với nhóm ở độ tuổi từ 15 – 19. Theo một điều tra
quốc gia về tình trạng biết chữ của người dân Jamaica cho
thấy: 75,6% người từ 15 tuổi trở lên biết chữ; tỉ lệ người
biết chữ ở nam giới là 81,3% và ở nữ là 69,4%.

In the Republic of Jamaica, the illiteracy rate of people is

quite high, and this rate is different between age groups,
genders, and geographical environments. The illiteracy
rate of the population over 65 is much higher than the
age group of between 15 and 19 years old. According to
the national survey about Jamaicans' literacy status:
75,6% of literate people is from 15 years old over; the
literacy rate in men is 81,3% and 69,4% in women.

5. Cần đổi mới hoạt động thật sự của ban thường trực Hội
cha mẹ học sinh. Mấy năm gần đây, Hội cha mẹ học sinh
đã làm được một số công việc góp phần cùng nhà trường
giáo dục học sinh nâng cao chất lượng dạy và học. Hội
cũng đã vận động các bậc cha mẹ có tránh nhiệm trong
việc quản lý con em, tạo điều kiện cho con em học tập
nghiêm túc ở nhà chứ không khoán trắng cho nhà trường
như trước. Tuy nhiên, thực tế không phải Hội cha mẹ học
sinh nào cũng có hoạt động thiết thực hiệu quả.
It is necessary to renovate the actual operation of the
Standing Committee of the Student-Parent Association. In
recent years, the Student-Parent Association has done the
number of things in combination with the school to
educate students to improve the quality of teaching and
learning. The association has also encouraged parents to
be responsible in managing their children, creating
conditions for their children to study seriously at home
rather than entrust on their children’s studies to the
teaching staff as they used to before. However, in reality,
not all Parents Associations have practical and effective
activities.

9.3. Further Practice:

1. Yoko đã kể cho tôi nghe về những sinh viên đã nhiều

lần dự kỳ thi tuyển sinh vào trường đại học này.

Yoko told me about students who had attended the

entrance exams to this university many times.

2. Bạn nên tập trung nghề của mình vào một lĩnh vực bạn
thật sự quan tâm.
You should concentrate your job on a major which you
really pay attention to.

3. Người có cái nhìn lạc quan về cuộc sống là người hạnh

phúc.
The happy people who have an optimistic view of life.
4. Một giải thưởng 500.00 đô la Mỹ đã được tặng cho bác
sĩ Sato – người đã gây ấn tượng cho giới khoa học với
công trình nghiên cứu về bệnh cảm lạnh thông thường.
A prize of 500.00 dollars in the US was presented to Dr.
Sato who make impressed the scientific world with his
research about common colds.

5. Văn phòng chúng tôi cần một thư ký biết sử dụng nhiều
chương trình khác nhau để soạn thảo văn bản.
Our office needs a secretary who knows how to use
various programs to the text editor.
