Main goal of the system is to:

 To design and develop a web based platform for entrance examination.

 The system will provide list of course recommendation for incoming students

based on the result or score that they have got.

 To provide a paperless and computer-assisted entrance examination that is

online based.

 Develop a system that is easy and efficient to use.

 The system will bring convenience to both the college staffs and students.

ABSTRACT

This work is concerned with computer based examination system. It focused on trends in

online computer based examination. This entrance examination system is designed to

assist the college guidance administration. The design of the system is simple and easily

understood. Its flexible makes it amenable for future changes and amendment to either

incorporate other aspects of intelligence.

Project Context

An entrance examination is an examination that many educational institutions use

to select students for admission. These exams may be administered at any level of

education , from primary to higher education, although they are more common at higher

levels. But this system is designed for Higher levels only.

The typical way before of taking entrance examination is through exam papers,

the student must take the exam in the colleges of their choice. The conventional way is

time consuming, the college staff will prepare bunch of exam questionnaire and that

includes too much paperwork. The students must also prepare things like pens, pencils

and other necessity that are needed in taking the exam. The manual way of taking the

entrance examination is inefficient and not convenient for both parties. The system will

improve the manual system of providing the schedule of exam to the students.

Entrance exam system of Aklan Catholic College has a lot of important

advantages compared to traditional paper-based exams such as efficiency, immediate

scoring and feedback in the case of multiple-choice question exams. Furthermore, this

system allow more innovative and authentic assessments due to more advanced

technological capacities. The researchers therefore decided to propose a project on

entrance examination system that runs on the personal computer of the student.

Purpose and Description

The purpose of this project is to design and implement a computer based examination

system with fast and efficient service for the students.

What is your Project Goal

The researchers of this study aim to design and develop a platform for fast and efficient

college entrance examination. The proposed solution is to have a computer-assisted

examination. The entrance examination will be web based; the staff in-charge will not

prepare a lot of examination papers anymore. The students also will not need to prepare

things like pens and other. They will only utilize the system to take their entrance

examination. If the students also are still undecided as to what course they would take,

they can also use the system to browse for course recommendation. This system will

improve the conventional way of taking entrance examinations.

Objectives

The main objective of this study is to design and develop a computer-assisted entrance

examination for colleges along with the list of course recommendation.

The following are the specific objectives of this capstone project:

1. To design and develop a web based platform for entrance examination.

2. The system will provide list of course recommendation for incoming students

based on the result or score that they have got.

3. To provide a paperless and computer-assisted entrance examination that is online

based.

4. Develop a system that is easy and efficient to use.

5. The system will bring convenience to both the college staffs and students.

6. It also aims to determine the quality and acceptability of the developed software

using a standardized evaluation tools.

Scope and Limitations

The study covered the design and implementation of a computer based examination

system with benefit the examiners and examinees. It focuses on user friendliness, small

use in memory and data storage, also it accuracy and reliability of the process of school,

since it can help in evaluating enrollees’ academic abilities.

The limitations of the System to be designed are as follows:

1. This Entrance Examination System is designed for Educational Institutions .

2. The questions are in multiple-choice format..

Definition of Terms

This defines terminology specific to the problem domain, explaining terms, which may

be unfamiliar to the reader of the use-case descriptions or other project documents. The

following are the definition of terms used in this project work including acronyms and

their meaning:

1. Examination: A test to show a person’s progress, knowledge or ability, it comprises of

some question and multiple choices answer.

2. Student: A person who has an account on the entrance examination app.

3. Administrator: A person who manages the operation of the application.

4. Profile: All the information of candidate such as name, course, grades of all examined

computer based examinations.

5. Question: A problem that has a number of choices and only one correct answer.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

According to Zhou Guangli and Jiang Shangfeng (2017) (middle), 40 years of

college entrance examination reform: meaning construction and institutional

change, put forward that the time arrangement of college entrance examination

policy can be divided into three stages, and expounded the changes of college

entrance examination policy, which shows that the policy changes of college

entrance examination reform in the past 40 years are of great significance to further

improve the college entrance examination system. Yang Yaoyao (2018) (c), a

comparative study of the new system of China’s college entrance examination and

the system of the United States college entrance examination, expounds that the

new entrance examination policy has improved China’s education system, but it has

not completely solved the disadvantages of the previous entrance examination

policy, and tries to seek lessons from the American entrance examination policy to

make up for the shortcomings of China’s entrance examination. Wang Yalan (2018)

(middle) analysis on the optimization path of scoring mode in college entrance

examination puts forward some defects of scoring mode under the new college

entrance examination system and suggestions on optimizing the scoring mode of the

new college entrance examination, which provides some policy ideas for the reform

and development of the college entrance examination. The examination system in

Bangladesh and its impact: on curriculum, students, teachers and Society (MD al

Amin and janinka Greenwood (2018) (Bangladesh) describes the role and impact of

the current examination system in Bangladesh and the impact of maintaining the

examination system. People recognize the need for change, but also realize that it’s

not just examinations that need to change. From these studies, we can see that

China has built its own new model of higher education in different stages of

development. In different periods, the form of learning changes according to the

government’s policies. The Great Cultural Revolution has destroyed the

development of higher education in the past ten years, but after several educational

reforms and new methods, everything has been on the right track. Since the reform

and opening up, China has established diplomatic relations with many countries,

which is due to the continuous development of all aspects of foreign exchanges. It

has also made some achievements in the reform of the college entrance examination

system and explored new ways. Bangladesh, on the other hand, has made

remarkable achievements in the past two decades by ensuring access to education.

TECHNICAL BACKGROUND

The development of the project will be based on the track of the IT program of the

institution and the skills of the researchers. Since the project is a web based system, the

researchers will use MySQL and Visual Basic. This project will help to facilitate the

students on their entrance exams.

MySQL- is an open-source relational database management system. Its name is a

combination of "My", the name of co-founder Michael Widenius's daughter, and "SQL",

the abbreviation for Structured Query Language.

Visual Basic - is an event-driven programming language and environment

from Microsoft that provides a graphical user interface (GUI) which allows programmers

to modify code by simply dragging and dropping objects and defining their behavior and

appearance. Visual Basic is derived from the BASIC programming language and is

considered to be event-driven and object-oriented.

Visual Basic is intended to be easy to learn and fast to write code with; as a result, it is

sometimes called a rapid application development (RAD) system and is used

to prototype an application that will later be written in a more difficult but efficient

language.
