“Music on the menu”

The Department of Fine and Performing Arts at Texas A&M International University is an

organization of a variety of clubs that runs in four divisions. The spots you can audition for are art, dance,

music and theater. Dr. James Moyer is the department sheriff for FPA and there are twelve full-time

faculty staff in case you ever need help with playing an instrument. In the music division there are seven

ensembles that you can audition for so there’s options you can go after. Dr. James is the one in control of

who gets accepted and what shows are able to go through. Students and teachers can express their love for

these hobbies. They do many events like the upcoming jazz assemble. The main goal of the sheriff

assembling this event is to inform individuals of this event, attract those who have an interest in playing

jazz music, attract those who are seeking a new hobby and to put yourself out there.

TAMIU’s Department of Fine and Performing Arts created an assembly called “Music on The

Menu” to attract people that share the same passion for jazz music. What makes this event so compelling

is that anyone including individuals that aren’t informed about jazz music can attend this event. Since this

event is during the beginning of the semester, it turns into a great opportunity for new students at TAMIU

to meet new people with similar interests and learn more about jazz. They even made it public so that

residents across Laredo can go. Since a handful of students and residents from around the USA might

attend this event, a face mask is recommended to use because COVID is still a prominent event

happening. We made this event public two weeks in advance so students can make time to be able to

attend and invite friends ahead of time. The creators created this event ahead of time because they

themselves are current students at TAMIU and they’re aware of how tricky time management can be. .

This event will be taking place” Wednesday, August 31,2022 at the Center for the Fine and Performing

Arts Recital Hall from 12:15-1P.M.” and is “free admission” so money is the least of anyone's problems.
. “For more information you can email colincampbell@tamiu.edu or call at 956-326-3044”. TAMIU’s

instagram page posted it on social media and put flyers all around campus for teachers and students to be

aware of this event .

The beginning of college is known for finding yourself and discovering new hobbies or talents

that you might have. This event is a great opportunity to put yourself out there. You can discover if you

have a love for music and this event could impact your life in my ways. You could expand your

knowledge about jazz music, find a new hobby to partake in, and It would be super beneficial if you want

to grow as a jazz musician. People could find you and learn about your capabilities. There would be

people there with different levels of experience and everyone can share each other's knowledge on it. You

would meet different people with different sections in taste for jazz music like saxophones, trumpets,

trombones, and a rhythm section (made up of piano, bass, guitar, and drums) which is superficial because

you could teach each other about your interest in your section. Sometimes the jazz orchestra players will

add vibraphone (which is part of the xylophone family), clarinet, violin and singers to the group. The

opportunities you have to find new interests are endless because there’s so much to do when you’re

interested in jazz music

The flier The Department of Fine and Performing Arts at Texas A&M International University

made should have informed you with information on where the jazz event will take place at and what is

and isn’t required to be able to go. It’s rare for events like this to happen at Tamiu, since we live in a

really small city where you least expect people to listen to jazz music. The flier gave information on the

event and what types of benefits you would get if you attend. I believe it’s important to start examining

flyers and to start thinking of the opportunities it might bring us because events like these can be a life

changing experience. Some just don't think much of it. I believe the readers should use the information I

gave as a way to start getting into jazz or other events so they can start putting themselves out there and to

get out of your comfort zone.
