The English teacher I had for both 6th and 10th grade My AVID teacher that I had all throughout middle school
would make me feel horrible about my writing. If you helped me gain confidence in public speaking. She'd
disagreed with her, she'd humiliate you. correct you when needed along with encouraging you.

A BRIEF EXPLANATION

of Literacy
Deborah Brandt defines a sponsor of literacy as, "Any agents, local or
distant, concrete or abstract, who enable, support, teach, model, as well as
recruit, regulate, suppress, or withhold literacy—and gain advantage by it in
some way"

Some common examples of a sponsor of literacy that may be seen in your

life are your teachers, the internet, or maybe even your parents. They may
educate you on notions or enable you to undertake tasks.

Analyze
USING "SPONSORS OF LITERACY"

My negative literacy moment deterred me from finding any

good in literacy. I hated attending class and hated doing the
assignments.

My positive literacy moment pushed me towards improving

my public speaking skills. I felt encouraged to work towards
doing better. She taught me what is a good public speaker,
and what aspects of my own speaking I should work on.

HOW HAS IT BEEN SHAPED?

The literacy events described have shaped my current writing identity into
someone who dislikes writing. I don't enjoy doing it, but I can't avoid it
because I'm a student. When assigned to write about something I care
about, I put more effort and thought into my writing. When assigned to
write about something bland, like an assigned book, I put less thought and
only write because I want a good grade.

Reading

It gives me the chance It's not something It's not something I I used to read a lot in
