PCA-Human Resource Frame Worksheet

Worksheet Objectives:
1. Describe the human resource frame
2. Apply the human resource frame to your personal case situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Briefly restate your situation from Module 1 and your role.

I am an Account Manager with a staffing firm. My responsibility is assist with my clients

staffing needs. After the pandemic happened in 2020, it was difficult to find and retain
employees due to the stimulus checks, unemployment benefits, and other government
assistance. It was more lucrative to stay home rather than work full-time for a time. That is not a
biased opinion. With unemployment benefits, people could make $800-$900 a week. That’s
$46k/year or $22.50/hr which is more than what some of our jobs were paying. The firms active
headcount started to drop dramatically due to this. Gross profits were at an all-time low.

To solve the situation and to better assist my clients, I negotiated raising their pay rates to
stay competitive. Pay rates and minimum wage were starting to sky rocket. I showed them
reports of pay rates for similar positions that were offered by other organizations. I also
discussed other incentives such as sign on bonuses, referral bonuses. The clients that took to
these changes starting to hire and retain more employees. The ones that refused to change
continued to be same problem.

2) Describe how the human resources of the organization influenced the situation.

Although human resources with our firm didn’t really influence the eviromental factor that
we faced, they influenced our response. During this time we needed creativity and to develop
new ideas to attract and retain employees. The question was how do we find more employees
faster and how do we retain them? As stated in my previous PCA’s, influencing our clients to
pay more was the number one solution. This did helped to some extent, but our active headcount
and gross revenue still dropped. Some companies were adamant about not changing their pay
rates.

However, we didn’t really come up with many other solutions than raising pay. There were
referral incentives and sign on bonuses, but what else could we have done? We didn’t bring in
outside perspective and we didn’t empower current employees by keeping them informed and

encouraging participation. Progessive organizations give power to employees as well as invest in
their development.

3) Recommend how you would use the human resources for an alternative course of
action regarding your case.

If I were to endure a situation similar to this one in the future, I would branch out
and encourage innovation and creativity. Figure out a way to open up more positions in
business development and bring in people with a different perspective with outside ideas.
Help us see things we are not seeing and bring in a different perspective. I would have
also encouraged current employees to come up with solutions and incentivize them to do
so.

For example, when we were struggling to fill an order I would have offered some
type of substantial reward to an employee that figured out how to get it done by any
means necessary. Encouraging them to think outside of the box and to use outside
experience. Then asked them how they did it and communicated that to the rest of the
organization to replicate it or make it even better. We could have even turned it into a
competition. The key part is making sure everyone is rewarded for their efforts.

4) Reflect on what you would do or not do differently given what you have learned
about this frame.

I would have encouraged more diversity and outside perspective. I will do this
more often moving forward as well. We didn’t have a lot of options of what we could do
and it was the same people coming up with ideas. We should have figured out a way to
encourage others to contribute or bring in people with different ideas.

I would not have kept looking at the same people for answers. Although they
were higher level and have been in the game longer, we weren’t solving the problem. I
should have looked at other alternatives and other employees more to get different points
of view. This would have not only opened up more ideas, but my team and other lower-
level employees would have felt more important to the organization because they were
contributing and not just sitting on the sidelines. They would have been more involved.
