Rizal, in correlation with Great Man Theory, shows the concept of heroic
imagination, but more on the socio-ceintricallity of it and not ego-central. He,
however, as an example, countered the ideas behind this theory. Leaders are in fact
made and not born. The environment, personal family, the people we communicate
to, our ideas, cultures, and beliefs would be a big factor on whether or not we would
have the knack for leadership or be forced into a leadership role..
Most of the people we consider as “heroes” are just simple, everyday people who
simply emerges as “heroes” in particular situations. Leaders are a product of their
environment and the society that makes him. In the case of Rizal, he was more in a
sense of a patriot, than a hero but the years of oppression and maltreatment
brought upon by our colonizers shaped him to be the ‘hero’, we view of him today.
He was fortunate to be able to be educated, travel to different countries, attend
social events, and have his voice heard. He has a platform to be seen and heard, and
his voice counts, especially to the Filipino people. When he sees the continuous
discrimination and unwarranted acts of the colonizers, he steps up and be the voice
of reason the the Filipino community, and he did it through his art and his love for
science.
Ano sa tingin mo ang katayuan ng teoryang ito sa
kasalukuyang panahon? Ganito pa rin ba ang pagtingin
o ang pagpapakahulugan natin sa konsepto ng ‘bayani’
ngayon? Bakit oo? bakit hindi?
Yes, the theory is still present in today’s time but it needs a different definition from
what it was before. Everyone is a hero. They can neither be born with it or be made
into it. They can also be a combination of both which is affected by a lot of factors
such as the environment, the family and status an individual is born into, and the
people surrounding that individual that affects how they would act and think. But
there is a line that separates a hero, one that was born to it and one that is called
for it. One can be called and be passionate about it, but it is still a battle of will.
Everyone can be a hero but that doesn’t mean everyone will and should be a hero.
What separates them is character. Character is a great equalizer in determining
whether someones is a good hero. Because leadership has 3 components: (1)
Competence (2) Purpose and (3) Character. And Rizal exudes all three.
Muling balikan ang video na napanood sa simula ng
gawaing ito. Ano ang iyong palagay sa ganitong
pagbubunyi sa pagkabayani ni Rizal?
There are a lot of things and qualities that Rizal’s lack and it is absurd to consider
him as a God. Rizal is inferior to the God we know, and it is beyond human
comprehension why people enthrone him as a God. Rizal has contributed a lot and
left a huge impact in our country but he does not possess the qualities to be hailed as
God. It is odd to consider him as one, as a perfect, all powerful being, especially since
the contention surrounding it isn’t right. Although it is hard to argue with people
with strong convictions, even though the idea they support is preposterous.
