a. Deductive- from general premise to specific premise.

Premise 1: Mr. Smith always wears black shoes to work.

Premise 2: Mr. Smith will be coming to work on Friday.

Conclusion: Mr. Smith is wearing black shoes on Friday.

b. Inductive- from specific premise to general premise

Premise 1: Mr. Smith wears black shoes on Monday.


Premise 2: Mr. Smith wears black shoes on Tuesday.
Premise 3: Mr. Smith wears black shoes on Wednesday.
Premise 2: Mr. Smith wears black shoes on Thursday

Conclusion: Mr. Smith always wears black shoes to work.


DEDUCTIVE INDUCTIVE

Premise 1: All human beings are mortal. Premise 1: Allan is loyal to his girlfriend.

Premise 2: John is a human being. Premise 2: All men are loyal.

Conclusion: John is a mortal. Conclusion: All men are loyal to their


girlfriends.

Premise 1: Filipinos are hardworking people. Premise 1: Jose is a Filipino.

Premise 2: Jose is a Filipino. Premise 2: Filipinos are hardworking people.

Conclusion: Jose is hardworking. Conclusion: Jose is hardworking.

§ EXAMPLES OF SPECIAL OCCASION SPEECHES


1. Ceremonial Speaking- are speeches given during a ceremony or a ritual marked by observance of
formality or etiquette. These ceremonies tend to be very special for people, so it shouldn’t be surprising
that they are opportunities for speech making.

• Introduction- used to introduce another speaker.

• Speech of Presentation- used to present a prize or honor.

• Speech of Acceptance- a speech given by the recipient of a prize or honor.

• Speech of Dedication- a speech designed to highlight the importance of the project and possibly
those to whom the project has been dedicated.

• Toasts- a speech designed to congratulate, appreciate, or remember.

• Eulogies- a speech given in honor of someone who has died

• Farewell- allows someone to say good-bye to one part of his or her life as he or she is moving on to
the next part of life.
2. Inspirational Speaking- are speeches given to elicit or arouse an emotional state within an audience

• Speech for Public Relations- the speaker is speaking to enhance one’s own image or the image of
his or her organization.

• Speech of Justification- given when someone attempts to defend why certain actions were taken
or will be taken.

• Speech of Apology- given to apologize and present resolution.

• Speech for Commencement- designed to recognize and celebrate the achievements of a


graduating class or other group of people.

3. Motivational Speaking- are speeches given to inspire and motivate people.

• Hero Speech- is a motivational speech given by someone who is considered a hero or role model in
society.

• Survivor Speech- speech given by someone who has survived a personal tragedy or who has faced
and overcome serious adversity.

• Religious Speech- designed to incorporate religious ideals into a motivational package to inspire
an audience into thinking about or changing aspects of their religious lives.

• Success Speech- given by someone who has succeeded in some aspect of life and is giving back by
telling others how they too can be successful.
