I. GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF INTERVENTION

1.1 Purpose
The MENAPY company recently signed a framework agreement with BRASSIVOIRE to
install photovoltaic panels on the roofs of the buildings of the brewery factory as a third-party
investment.

This involves approximately 3,000 modules and the feasibility study that MENAPY is currently
coordinating consists, among other things, of a stability study to ensure that the roofs can
support the additional loads of the photovoltaic process that will be used.

To take into account national technical construction standards and the local climate, MENAPY
asked ARCADE Architecture as a local partner.
In order to better understand all the contours of the stability study ordered, ARCADE has
joined the services of the following skills:
ÿ The ICCATEX International design office, specialist in structures
(calculation of the resistance of materials);
ÿ NOA Trading, Solar energy specialist in renewable energy;
ÿ the VERITAS technical control office .

The study mission includes:

ÿ The comparison of the assumptions of load resulting from the File of the
works executed and projected loading.
ÿ A conclusion on the aptitude of the elements of the metal frame to take up the
projected loads and the method of fixing the solar panels on the roof.

1.2 Presentation of the site

The BRASSIVOIRE factory is located at PK 24 on the North highway. The building that is the
subject of this study is the large hangar that houses the brewery with the large production
tanks and the bottling lines.
We carried out a site visit on 02/08/2021, in the presence of the managers of the plant's
technical services responsible for logistics and maintenance.
The framework of the building is made up of a metal frame (purlins and portico).

The roof is made up of three (3) slopes with one (1) central gutter and two (2) others in the
sandpit. The slope is 5% for the whole.

1.3 Documentation provided

- Plans of the steel structure of the plant (Appendix 1).
We have been sent the plans for the metal frame made by the company ASTRON.
The Documents transmitted include the execution plans of the structure.
We were not sent the plans indicating the different sections of the gantries and
breakdowns.
- Calculation note for solar panels from NOA TRADING (Appendix 2).
NOA Trading, importer and installer of photovoltaic panels, was associated with the
study to calculate the additional charge related to the installation of the panels. The
result of the calculations was taken into account for the assessment of the stability of
the roof receiving the excess weight.

II. STUDY OF THE STEEL FRAMEWORK

Not having received the technical sheet of the cover, we calculated its own weight by
considering the properties of the bins of the company ASTRON. We considered the
tank thickness of 0.75 mm, the most unfavorable hypothesis.
The surface masses are indicated in the document (Application technique reference
technical notice 5/08-2008) 1.75 and 2.16 Kg/m² (Appendix 3).

We determined by calculation the surface mass which seemed to us closer to reality.

We have chosen a thickness of the tray sheet of 0.75 mm instead of 0.63 mm
considering the density of steel of 7850 Kg/m3 which gives 5.90 Kg/m², rounded off
to 6 Kg/m².
The images received (Appendix 4) of the roof clearly show that it is made up of
ASTROTEC type panels (Appendix 5), placed directly on the purlins constituting the
secondary framework without false ceiling and thermal insulation and hung by a
system of zip ties.
As a precautionary measure, we have taken a surface load of 5 Kg/m² for the
passage of the electrical cables in their cable trays.
Considering a rain overload of 15 Kg/m² and the weight of the solar panels according
to the result of the calculations taken from the NOA Trading documents (surface load
of 18.4 Kg/m²), we proceeded to check the secondary framework (breakdowns)
which directly supports the cover and must also receive the solar panels.

Upon our request for additional information, we only received a purlin section 200
mm high, with no details on the thickness. On none of the documents have we noted
any other information concerning the dimensional characteristics of the Z purlins.

We have therefore chosen on the basis of the catalog of profiles in our possession
(Appendix 6), the minimum thickness available for the 200 mm type. The checks
were made for a 200Z20 type failure.

2.1 Analysis of the original load calculation hypotheses

The load assumptions considered for the sizing of the gantries and purlins have been
identified on the framework plans. These assumptions are presented on the plan
extract below.

2.1.1 Permanent loads

An analysis of the documents received reveals the following information:

ÿ Permanent surface load : 60 Kg/m² ( Annex 1)
ÿ Surface wind load : 110 Kg/m² ( Annex 1 )
ÿ Additional surface load : 20 Kg/m² ( Annex 1 )

2.1.2 Rain load

ÿ Rainfall surface load : 15 Kg/m²

2.2 Analysis of projected load calculation hypotheses

2.2.1 Permanent loads

ÿ Area load cover : 6 Kg/m²

ÿ 200Z20 7.59 Kg/m (see appendix 6)
weight of the failure :
ÿ Surface load passage of suspended networks : 5 kg/m²
ÿ Surface load photovoltaic panels : 18.4 Kg/m² (see appendix 2)

2.2.2 Rain load

ÿ Rainfall surface load : 15 Kg/m²

2.3 Balance sheet

The forces of the wind remain sizing despite the additional loads due to the solar
panels. In other words, the loads due to the solar panels have no effect on the
dimensioning of the gantries (crossbars and posts) as they exist.

2.4 Arrow check of the 200Z20 purlin with loads

The span of the purlin is 7.50 m and the distance between purlins is 1.742 m

2-) Rain Load Q

3-) Load at ELS

Deflection verification condition:

200Z20 type purlins can accommodate solar panels without fear of undersizing
and without the risk of any disorder.

III. MODE OF ATTACHING PHOTOVOLTAIC PANELS TO THE

ROOF

The ASTROTEC roof consists of flat steel panels with raised edges, fixed from
the inside to the secondary framework by means of slide fasteners.
The ribs are made by crimping the edge of successive panels so the ribs cannot be
perforated.

In other words, no perforation of the cover panels is made during installation.

Examination of the method of fixing the solar panels shows the need for the installation
of fixings which must cross the panels of the cover to cling to the secondary framework
(purlins Z).
The ribs formed by the crimping of the end of the panels cannot allow the installation of
these visible fasteners.
In addition, the drilling of the cover panels, given that it is not recommended for the
Technical Application Document 5/08-2008 of the ASTROTEC process (Appendix 3)
requires that the fixings be equipped with a system of effective sealing.

It is necessary to recall the low slope of the roof slopes (5%) which requires special
attention because it increases the vulnerability of the roof to risks.
of infiltration.

IV. CONCLUSION

At the end of our study on the stability of the roof of the frame, we make the following
observations:
ÿ The visual examination during the site visit did not reveal any degradation likely to
threaten the stability of the framework structure. The work is recent (the delivery
and commissioning of the brewery date from 2015) and the upkeep and
maintenance are apparently well respected.

ÿ The sizing of the main structure (the gantries) can allow the overload caused by
the installation of photovoltaic solar panels.

ÿ The additional loads due to the solar panels can be supported by the secondary
framework (purlins) without the slightest risk of disorder.

ÿ With regard to the system for fixing the solar panels, the opinion of the manufacturer
of the self-supporting trays of the ASTROTEC type floating roof should be sought.
In principle, these cover trays should not be perforated for the attachment of any
material whatsoever.

ÿ The supplier and the construction company must be necessarily asked about the
recommendations for fixing the photovoltaic panels and the rail walkway system
for the break and maintenance of the
panels.
