1.0 PURPOSE
The purpose of this Method Statement is to describe the methodology of carrying out the
construction, quality control and safety aspects related to the installation of Fire alarm system
works for Construction of Package 1A, 1B & 1C - Fit out of Cluster (A, B & C), with respect to
project specifications and specific scope of works undertaken under the contractual obligations of
the contract.
1.1 This Method Statement is developed based on the detailed design drawings “Issued for
Construction”.
2.0 SCOPE
The scope of this Method Statement is to define the procedures of the Contractor to adopt the
Installation, of “Fire alarm system” as required by the project Construction of Package 1A, 1B &
1C - Fit out of Cluster (A, B & C). The installation procedure shall follow the execution of actual
work at site in accordance with KAHRAMAA Regulation, IFC drawings, QCS 2014, project
specifications and manufacturer’s recommended Installation.
2.1 This test on completion is applicable during the testing of fire alarm system.
2.2 All additional and changes or omission as recommended by the consultant, this Method
Statement shall be revised and re-submitted for approval.

5.0 RESOURCES
5.1 Tools and Equipment
The requirements that will be engaged for Fire alarm system works will be as follows:

6.0 RESPONSIBILITIES
6.2 QA/QC Engineer QA/QC is part of the quality management, focused on providing the
quality requirements per standards fulfilled with quality of workmanship.
6.2.1 Responsible for the inspections, testing and /or review of test data and quality audit
based on project documentation requirements.
6.2.2 Shall carry out periodic inspection of completed work, review of testing and
commissioning in coordination with the submitted data by site engineer, shall comply
with the project documentation requirements.
6.2.3 Shall perform coordination with the Engineer, Project Manager, Site Engineers, and
Safety Officers for the implementation and compliance with the Safety, Quality
Management System and work standard requirements.
6.4.4 Responsible of implementing all activities that are required as per approved shop
drawings.
6.4.5 Responsible on all work safety during execution.
6.4.6 Conducting daily meeting with Construction team to organize work for the day/next
day.
6.4.7 Coordinate the activities to other trade contractor before implementing at the site.
8.1.1 Check all material delivered to site is inspected properly by QA/QC Engineer and
check if it is stored properly as per manufacturer’s recommendations.
8.1.2 Inspection request shall be raised for the inspection of materials received at site to
the consultant.
8.1.3 Drawings for installation shall be approved & coordinated with other services.
8.1.4 Permits/clearances & proper access shall be provided as per approved program.
8.1.5 Obtained civil clearance prior to delivery and installation of Fire alarm devices on
site.
8.1.6 Location/area shall be ready for site installation.
8.1.7 Prepare all the materials, equipment and tools that are necessary during the
execution time.
8.1.8 Work shall be carried out by the site staff under strict supervision and guidance of
the concerned Supervisors / Foremen / Engineers.
8.1.9 The QA/QC Engineer shall check all the installations as per the Installation Check
list.
8.1.10 Inspection request shall be prepared by QA/QC Engineer and will be submitted to
consultant for their inspection and approval by coordinating with other contractors
and arrange inspection for the finished work.
8.4.1 The correct size of the Fire Resistant Cables shall be ascertained from
approved shop drawings before installation.
8.4.2 Fire resistance cables shall not be drawn into the same conduit, trunking
compartment or ducting compartment as cables of other systems.
8.4.3 Red colour cables will be used for the fire alarm system and white colour
cables will be used for the Emergency lighting system.
8.4.4 2X 1.5mm2 fire resistance cable will be used for terminating the fire alarm
the NAC
8.4.5 Before pulling of cable in existing / new conduit, ensure that conduit has been
inspected and are free from any sharp edges.
8.4.6 Mark the location of the Fire Resistant Cable on the floor / slab / walls /
structure as per approved layout drawing.
8.4.7 Fix the proprietary single clips for single run of cable or two holes of clip
formed from fixing strip covered with plastic with screws and wall plugs. The
distance between clips shall be as recommended by the manufacturer.

8.4.8 Where Fire Resistant cables pass through concrete, block work, walls, floors
etc, they shall be suitably protected by a length of PVC conduit throughout
the concealed length. Whereas in existing floors, concrete, block work,
walls etc.
8.4.9 No Fire Resistant Cable shall be installed directly in the concrete, block work
or brickwork, walls, floors etc. without written permission of the consulting
engineer.
8.4.10 PVC Conduits not required when Fire Resistant cables are installed in false
ceiling, floors or within dry type partitions, unless otherwise stated.
8.4.11 All cables shall run in straight lines parallel and square with the lines of the
building. Where the Engineer permission is given for cables to be concealed
within plastered or rendered walls they shall be routed in straight lines parallel
the floor or ceiling and plumb vertical down walls Cables shall be continuous
without any through joints.
8.4.12 After the fire resistance cables are installed these will be tested for continuity
and insulation resistance before termination of fire resistance cables to the
devices.
8.5.3 2C x 1.5mm2 approved fire resistant cable to be used for wiring initiating
devices to the panel, additional 2C x 2.5mm2 approved fire proof cable is
required for the smoke detector with sounder base for the activation of the
sounders units.
8.5.4 2C x 1.5mm2 approved fire resistant cable to be used for cabling the
Speakers with the panel, additional 2c x 2.5mm2 approved fire proof cable is
required from the FACP for the speaker with strobe for the activation of the
strobe unit.
8.5.5 Comply with NFPA 72 for installation of fire-alarm equipment.
8.5.6 Smoke- or Heat-Detector Spacing:
As per spacing on approved drawing
Comply with NFPA 72, "Smoke-Sensing Fire Detectors" & "Heat-
Sensing Fire Detectors".
Smooth ceiling spacing shall not exceed 30 feet (9 m).
8.5.7 Fire-Alarm Control Unit: Surface mounted, with tops of cabinets not more
than 72 inches (1830 mm) above the finished floor or as per detailed on
approved drawing
8.5.8 Annunciator: Install with top of panel not more than 72 inches (1830 mm)
above the finished floor, or as per detailed on approved drawing.
9.0 QUALITY
9.2 Documentation
9.2.1 The Site Inspection Request (IR) of various activities of fire alarm system
Installation works will be submitted to RLR in advance with adequate notice.
Consultant Inspection Requests Form shall be followed for fire alarm system
installation works.
9.2.2 Variance work activities will be checked and the QA/QC Engineer will be
responsible for completing Inspection Requests for these activities. Recorded
in related checklists and test certificates.
10.1 All works shall be carried out as per the approved Construction Health and Safety Plan
(CHSP)
10.2 No specific hazards identified outside the scope of the CHSP.
10.3 Prior to commencement of any activities, the workforce will receive a safety induction and
tool box talks on the project site safety requirements.
10.4 Site Engineer will ensure that all involved personnel are briefed on the nature of work and
associated hazards, and to verify the compliance with the required Personal Protective
Equipment for the tasked works at all times during construction activities.
10.5 Regular compliance inspections by the Site Engineer and HSE department will take place
throughout the works.
10.6 Safety signs shall be provided to guide the movement of workers, & safety awareness to
all.
10.7 Adequate lighting shall be provided for doing the works.
10.8 All site activities involving worker, operators at exposed areas during hot weather season
shall adhere to the control measures as per the project heat stress programmed and local
regulation in state of Qatar.
10.9 Emergency response plan procedures shall be strictly followed in the applicable events; a
competent emergency responses coordinator will be nominated for the site; while first
aiders and fire wardens will be deployed, assembly and muster points shall be clearly
identified and fire drills will be conducted regularly.
10.10 Adequate rest shelters, cooled drinking water and toilet facilities shall be provided.
10.11 Work area to be completely barricaded and permits related to the work being done and
to ensure that no works are performed unless the relevant permits are in place.
10.12 No specific environmental hazards identified outside the scope of the Construction
Environmental Management Plan.
