    The University Grants Commission discussed raising the retirement age of certain university staff positions and decided the following: 1) The retirement age for Assistant Registrars, Deputy Registrars, Assistant Directors of Physical Education, Deputy Directors of Physical Education, Assistant Librarians, and Deputy Librarians will be 60 years. 2) If any university had previously extended the retirement age to 62 years for these positions, it must now be reduced to 60 years. 3) Effective immediately, the retirement age for these positions at all universities will be 60 years.

    Subject : The Retirement Age of Assistant Registrar, Deputy Registrar, Assistant


    Director of Physical Education, Assistant Librarian and Deputy Librarian

    The Commission in its meeting held on 16th August, 2000 discussed the issue of age of
    retirement of Assistant Registrars, Deputy Registrars, Assistant Librarians, Deputy
    Librarians, Assistant Director of Physical Education in the university system and decided
    as under :-

    "The Commission decided that the age of retirement of Assistant Registrar, Deputy
    Registrar, Assistant Director of Physical Education, Deputy Director of Physical
    Education, Assistant Librarian and Deputy Librarian shall be 60 years. It was further
    decided that if any situation has so far extended the superannuation age to 62 years in
    respect of any of the aforesaid category of employees - it must with immediate effect be
    brought down to 60 years. It was further decided that with immediate effect from now the
    aforesaid category of employees shall superannuate at the age of 60 years"
