Multicultural Literacy

Based on our it is the ability to understand and appreciate the parallels and differences between
customs, values, and beliefs of your culture and a different culture.

Kung babalikan natin sa ating subject na world values system and multicultural studies, sinilip natin ang
iba’t-ibang kultura, gaya ng islam, the Asian taughts or Confucian teachings, the western and indigenous
tribes. Nakita natin ang comparisons ng different cultures and how their teachings and beliefs developed
them as a human person.

So why we have to be multiculturall literate? Basically, this will pave the way for us to respect and
appreciate cultural diversity. Nagiging clear ang satin ang lente ng ibat ibang kultura at from that mas
Madali nating naiintidihan ang mga pinangggalingan ng iba. Also, it will open an opportunity to advocate
btter opportunities for learning especially for those who are marginalised based on the colour of their
skin, or where they come from. Kumbaga, magiging daan ito upang maging connected tayo primarily as
a nation, and eventually promote peace despite of our differences.

Ika nga, iba iba man ang ating pinagmulan, pero magkakaugnay tayong lahat. As a human person, we
have to be literate of our differences to break the walls that seperates us from one another.
To respect and appreciate cultural diversity. To promote the understanding of unique cultural
and ethnic heritage. To promote the development of culturally responsible and responsive
curricula. To facilitate acquisition of the attitudes, skills, and knowledge to function in various
cultures.

Simmilarities

After seeing the differences of these each literacies by hving a glimpse of its definitions primary aims and
their brief significance, let us now look at its similarities.

All of them are 21st Century Literacies

1. All of them are contemporary literature. Napapanahon, nararanasan ngayon, and eventually
pinagpapatuloy ng generations sa ngayon
2. It be Can integratd to one another. Hindi na ito naka limit lang sa specific na discipline, we are
now liberate to think freely how to integrate them such as media and social literacies, art and
digital literacies, multicultural and global literacies, and possibly the science and financial
literacies.
3. It Requires Critical Thinking skills – Given na ito ang ineenhance sa 21 st century learners and
since we are now contiosly shifitng from traditional rote learning into a free and wide range of
learning
4. Avenue for innovation and progress. Since nasabi nga natin na these requires critical thinking
abilities, therefore, these literacies are prompt for further investigations and researches to
develop continually their field of expertise
