1 Quick Start
1.1 About XNMS
The XNMS is used to remotely monitor and manage repeaters registered in the XPT system.

As a core device in the system, the repeater is responsible for delivering all services. In this sense,
monitoring the repeaters gives you a full picture of the system. However, the repeater is usually
deployed outdoors, which may expose it to harsh working conditions for a long time. In order for
the repeaters to operate normally, it is necessary to monitor them in real time and fix any potential
problems.

This is what XNMS comes for. It enables you not only to diagnose the repeater remotely and take
troubleshooting measures, but also to make statistics on and query the services conducted in the
system for a certain period of time.
Networking
XNMS includes the Client, Data Service, Communication Service Center and Communication
Service. The Data Service and Communication Service Center use MySQL to store data.
_ Client: the operating interface of XNMS.
_ Data Service: the data management center of the system. It's used for statistics,
query and storage of the service data, repeater configuration, alarm information
etc., and supports distributed deployment.
_ Communication Service Center: the data connection and distribution center of the
system. Together with the Communication Service, it's mainly used for real-time
data report and repeater configuration.
_ Communication Service: exchanges and forwards the repeater data, and supports
distributed deployment.
For the installation, please refer to XNMS Installation Guide.
Main Features
The XNMS supports the following features.
_ View location and RSSI range of the repeater for better deployment to ensure the
communication among radios.
_ Monitor the operating status and alarms to locate repeater failures.
_ Manage the services data, including statistics, query and exporting the service.
_ Recover the repeater based on the monitoring results, or modify the repeater
parameters.
The XNMS comes with a free Express Edition and a paid Standard Edition. The features of them

4.1 Repeater Alarms and Handling (Digital Repeater)

4.1.1Over Temperature

When the temperature of PA module exceeds the normal range, the alarm indicator glows red and
the LCD displays the prompt message below:

When this alarm is given, the repeater stops transmitting. You need to:

1. Check whether the temperature of heat sink surface is over 80℃. If yes, proceed with
Step 2 and 3 to find out the cause.

Caution:

DO NOT touch the heat sink surface to avoid the burn. You can use a digital
thermometer with thermocouple to measure the temperature.

2. Check whether the fan is in normal status. If not, please replace the fan.
3. Check whether ambient temperature and ventilation conditions satisfy the installation
requirements. If not, please make improvements as soon as possible, such as install the
air-conditioner, improve the ventilation conditions, lower the ambient temperature etc.

4. Check if connection between the transmitter and RF cable or antenna feed line is loose or
damaged. If yes, tighten or replace the cable or antenna feed line. Poor connection
between them could cause the high TX power, which would make the temperature of the
heat sink rise quickly.

5. If the above measures fail to solve the problem, contact your local dealer for technical
support.

When the temperature falls into normal range, the prompt message will disappear, and the alarm
indicator will go out.
4.1.2VSWR Alarm
High VSWR (voltage standing wave ratio) of TX antenna connector could cause the damage to
the PA, and even the failure of the transmitter. When the VSWR exceeds the normal range, the
Alarm Indicator glows red and the LCD displays the prompt message below:

When this alarm is given, the repeater automatically lowers the TX power. You need to:

1. Check if the TX frequency is within the range of the antenna. If not, please contact your
local dealer to replace the antenna. Improper antenna will result in poor transmitting
performance or even damage to the transmitter.

2. Check if the connection between the transmitter and RF cable or antenna feed line is
loose or damaged. If yes, tighten or replace the cable or antenna feed line.

3. If you cannot solve the problem, contact your local dealer for technical support.
When the VSWR falls within the normal range, the prompt message will disappear, and the
Alarm Indicator will go out.

4.1.3Over/Low Voltage Alarm

When power voltage is detected to be over or below the normal range (11V ~15.6V), the Alarm
Indicator glows red and the LCD displays the prompt message below:

• Over Voltage Alarm

• Low Voltage Alarm

When this alarm is given, the repeater stops working automatically. You need to:

1. Check whether the power voltage is too low or too high. If yes, replace the DC power
supply or external battery.

2. Check whether the power cord is loose or damaged. If yes, tighten or replace the cord.

detects the TX or RX PLL is unlocked, the alarm indicator glows red and LED displays “E4” (TX
Unlock) or “E5” (RX Unlock).

• TX Unlock Alarm

• RX Unlock Alarm

When such alarm is given, the repeater automatically stop partial operations. Now you will need
to contact your local dealer for technical support.

When TX/RX returns to the locked status, the prompt message will disappear. But the Alarm
Indicator will not go out. You need to perform other operations to clean it, such as press the up
button or down button.

4.2.5Over Temperature
When the operating temperature of the PA module is higher than 85 ℃, the alarm indicator glows
red and the LCD displays "E6".

When this alarm is given, the repeater can still work properly. And the repeater keeps monitoring
and adjusting the TX power to lower the temperature. And you need to:

1. Check whether the fan is in normal status. If not, replace the fan.
2. Check whether the ambient temperature and ventilation conditions satisfy the installation
requirements. If not, please make improvements as soon as possible, such as install the
air-conditioner, improve the ventilation conditions, lower the ambient temperature etc.

3. Check if connection between the transmitter and RF cable or antenna/feed line is loose or
damaged. If yes, tighten or replace the cable or antenna/feed line. Poor connection
between them could cause a high TX power, which would make the temperature of the
heat sink rise quickly.

4. If the above measures fail to solve the problem, contact your local dealer for technical
support.

When the temperature falls into normal range, the alarm will disappear, and the Alarm Indicator
will go out.

4.2.6VSWR Alarm
During transmitting, the repeater will detect the voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) of the TX
antenna of the PA module. Over-high VSWR could cause the damage to or even the failure of the
PA mould. When the VSWR exceeds the normal range, the alarm indicator glows red and the
LCD displays “E7”:

When this alarm is given, the repeater can still work properly. But you need to:

1. Check if the TX frequency is within the range of the antenna. If not, please contact your
local dealer to replace the antenna. Improper antenna will result in poor transmitting
performance or even damage to the transmitter.

2. Check if the connection between the transmitter and RF adapter cable or antenna feed
line is loose or damaged. If yes, please replace the cable.

3. If you cannot solve the problem, contact your local dealer for technical support.
