Backgrounder
Civil association ‘Mujeres Cardenenses contra el Cáncer de Mama’ MUCAM A.C. was
founded on September 23, 2012 in Cárdenas, Tabasco by Lorena Rúbio Juárez. It is
focused on the contuniuos figth, prevention campains, medic and psicologic attention
against breast cancer. It has two important proyects, whose main aid subjects are
women and girls.
‘Dona un brassier’ Project was created in 2015 by Lorena Rubio as founder, and it was
inspired in her history. Losing a part of her body is a difficult process for any woman.
Because of this MUCAM decided to give a bra or prosthesis as a present to restore
hope and confident to women.

“Donate a brassiere for re-empowering and giving hope to women”

To commemorate the fight against breast cancer month, MUCAM AC association made the collection ‘Dona un
brassier’ achieving the 300 pieces goal in support of women’s rehabilitation.
This association made the collection through bank transfers or brassieres donations to fill them with breast
prostheses handmade with linseed seeds. The collection begins in January until September to later deliver them
on October through a ceremony, these collections are made in Cárdenas and in different municipalities of
Tabasco.
MUCAM AC has supported women with breast cancer since 2012 thanks to the initiative of the president and
founder Mrs. Lorena Rubio Juarez and Dr. Gabriela Alejandra Arteaga Balcazar together with cancer survivors.

They decided to carry out this project in order to support the rehabilitation of women's image and improve self-
esteem, as well as to give hope to mastectomized patients and those who are currently in this struggle.
Others of the supports that this association provided to women through this was to grant turbans, sleeves as well
as medical and psychological care, these resources were granted regardless of social status.
Many of the women benefited said they were grateful for the support they received from this association and with
the people who make donations and invite society to continue contributing to this cause.
