Dynamics and Statics

Source of notes

● Mathocrat videos on Statics and Dynamics

● Krishna Series Books on Statics and Dynamics

My take on the chapter

Dynamics and Statics is basically the extension of the Equations of Motions, Newton’s Laws
of Motions, Friction, Work and Energy, Circular Motion and Gravitation chapters of Class 11
Physics. So if your concepts related to these topics are good enough then this chapter
should not be of much worry. Otherwise I would suggest that you quickly recall these
concepts so that you don’t find this chapter hard.

Breaking down the chapter:

1. Dynamics
a. Important topics would be - Projectile Motion, Rectilinear Motion, 2D motion,
Central Orbits, Planetary motions and Constrained motions.
b. The topics are well covered in the Mathocrat Lecture Series and you would
not have to look anywhere else. If you want to practise extra questions, you
can refer to the Krishna Series book.
c. Of all the topics mentioned in (a), only Central Orbits is something which you
might find difficult. But once you start solving the problems, you will realise
that there are only limited types of questions which can be formed in this
topic. Only thing is you should be quick with integrations.
2. Statics
a. There are three topics here which you need to look at - Virtual Work,
Common Catenary and Stability of Equilibrium. Questions from the remaining
topics, if they are asked in the examination, can be solved using your basic
concepts from Class 11 like - Newton’s Laws of Motions, Work-Energy
Theorems, Friction concepts etc.
b. The three topics mentioned in (a) are very well covered in the Mathocrat
lecture series. For more practice, refer to the Krishna series book.
c. Virtual Work and Stability of Equilibrium have many similarities while solving
the problems as both involve finding the distance of the Centre of Mass from
a fixed line. So, completing the chapter should not take much time.

All the best !!
