Mia Rodriguez
By Alyssa Christen
In this day in age, content creation is at an all-time high with participation from a large
mass of the population especially within Gen Z. A new and up and coming artist with a creative
yet recognizable vibe within her music, Mia Rodriguez is an Australian singer-songwriter who
kickstarted her career on the relatively new and extremely popular social media app, Tik Tok.
Mia began her career by posting videos on Tik Tok of her performing covers and other creative
content (dancing, singing, etc.) in 2019. She commenced her journey of creating her own music
in 2019 and has gained a large following (2 million) on Tik Tok compared to regular users but a
small following compared to content creators with over 10 million followers. She released her
first single in December of 2019 entitled, “Emotion” and just recently released her latest single,
“I Luv U” in 2022. Her first single music video received around 850,000 views on YouTube and
her recent music videos have surpassed 6 million views. On Spotify, her streams range from
700,000 streams to 29 million streams on her five singles that she has released. Her most popular
release and the single responsible for the fame she has attained over the past two and a half years
in credited to her single, “Psycho” which is the one and only single of hers on Spotify to get over
10 million streams totaling at 29 million with her next most streamed single sitting at 4 million
streams. For those of us who are unfamiliar with Mia Rodriguez, I would place her musical
creations in the genre of pop. For means of comparison, I would compare Mia to a similar sound
and vibe to Selena Gomez and Dua Lipa when it comes to her music. As for her look, I would
compare her to Katy Perry and Dua Lipa. Of course, her work and look are very original with
vibrant colors and a mixture between dark indie/pop sounds and mainstream melodies. I use
those comparisons to give an illustration on what to expect when it comes to Mia Rodriguez. She
has music that I could envision hearing on the radio as her creations resonate well with the
current trends. Mia was signed with City Records in late 2019 and has blossomed as she has
released more work. She is currently about to go on tour in Australia from December 2022 to
January 2023 with tickets available on her website. Her most recent single released was “I Luv
U” which was released on August 9th, 2022. I wouldn’t be surprised to see her eventually go on

Quotes:
“Because of Covid, I haven’t had the chance to talk to many artists at all. I’ve kinda
just been rolling with everything. It is really challenging working and being
surrounded with men in my field of work. I started my career in the music industry
when I was a 17-year-old girl, I grew up without much of a male figure in my life too.
So, it can be really scary. Especially because I feel misunderstood a lot of the time. I
“I think it’s just important to never let anyone bring you down, stick up for yourself
the time. It was way before the TikTok hype, and I was bored… it was 2018 and the
app was dead at the time so I made a couple videos hoping no one would see them ha
ha. But my account pretty much exploded. I enjoyed singing too so I sung covers here
and there, and boom! Record labels came swarming in, it all happened really fast
“I have recently made an ultimate game plan with my team, and I’m going to release
quite a lot of music very soon - with music videos - so I’m really excited for that!”.
I try to always be in the moment and not think about social media too much;
however, it’s a little hard when that element comes with your career, and it’s an
opportunity to communicate with your fans. It’s just super important to disconnect
yourself from any hate or negativity when it comes to social media, but there’s also
so much love and support, which for me, overshadows the bad!
