EDIT 610: FINAL PROJECT 4

Target Audience: This lesson is designed for 3rd graders in an English class.

Learning Objectives

• Students will be able to explain the role of a noun and be able to identify nouns in

sentences.

• Students will be able to spell nouns

• Students will be able to decipher the different types of nouns

• Students will learn how to use online games to learn nouns

• Students will know the importance of nouns

Materials & Preparation:

• Overhead Projector

• iPad's / Tablets / Computer

• Access to Internet & App Store (Kahoot & Quizlet)

• Parent Approval

• Pen / Pencil / Erasers

• Notebook

• Flashcards

• Highlighters

Key Terms:

• Nouns

• Proper Nouns

• Common Nouns
EDIT 610: FINAL PROJECT 5

• Abstract Nouns

Introduction:

• Share the importance of nouns. Read off common sentences to the students from the

overhead projector.

• Take away the nouns from the sentence and explain to the students that every sentence

must have a noun for it to be complete.

• Define what a noun exactly is and the different types of nouns

• After a few minutes of explaining everything to the students, ask some of the students if

they can name some nouns off the top of their head.

Explicit Instruction / Modeling:

• Have students try to name some nouns out loud as a group. I will call on some of them

one by one. Explain to them what a noun is.

• I will pull up the promethean board in front of the class. I will define exactly what nouns

are for them and explain to them the different types of nouns.

• Students will be connected to a Microsoft share point document

• Students will type out 10 nouns on SharePoint and list what they are, either a person,

place or thing.

• Since it is on SharePoint, I can view all the classroom's answers. We will go over the

incorrect ones as a group and explain why they aren't nouns.

• I will then put a few sentences on the board that are missing nouns. I will ask the students

what is wrong with the sentence. If they cannot figure it out, I will explain to them a noun

is missing and the sentence is incomplete because of it.

EDIT 610: FINAL PROJECT 6

Guided Practice:

• I will put three columns on my board in front of the classroom if people, place, and thing.

• Each student will come up to the board and write down one on each column.

• After we finish, I will then have the class get into small groups and talk about the

different types of nouns.

Independent Working Time:

• During this time, students will login to their quizlet account. I will have them make

flashcards and notes on nouns and to list as many nouns as they can.

• While they are working on this, I will be walking around trying to help out the students

who need it.

Assessment:

• I will have a Kahoot game ready for the students to engage in.

• This will let them have a fun time as well as compete against each other while learning

the material.

• The highest scorers will be rewarded with something

Review / Closing:

• I will have the students play the quizlet games that are generated for them.

• This will be their last review

• After a few minutes of fun games online I will ask the students if they have any questions

as well as if they are confused with anything.

Before and After

EDIT 610: FINAL PROJECT 7

Introduction:

By incorporating technology, diversity, and digital citizenship into my lesson, I believe I

improved it in all aspects. As well as making it more fun for the students in my classroom. The

lesson teaches the students about technology in the classroom and gives them a different way of

learning the material. They got on the board, they got into small groups, they participated in a

Kahoot quiz, they created flashcards on quizlet, and played fun games. I am not sure I can fit all

of this into one class or day, I believe I would stretch this over a two-to-three-day span if needed.

I do not want to rush through it and the students have trouble with understanding it.

Technology Decisions:

I tried to incorporate technology all through my lesson. At first in the original lesson plan

there was none of it. After making improvements, students had tablets now. They got to access

the apps quizlet and kahoot. Take engaged quizzes, play games, and work online. I believe it is

important for young students to get to know how to use these tools in the classroom. In middle

school they will be using stuff like this daily. For them to get a head start on it is important.

Before the start of the entire lesson, I would have students bring home a waiver form to their

parents. Their parents would need to sign off that it is okay for their children to participate in

online apps and websites in my classroom.

I also needed to make sure the students know how to use these tools. The day before the

lesson I did a quick walk through the apps so they could get to know them. I did not want the

students to be lost. The use of SharePoint was one of my favorite parts in this lesson. Students

were able to type out their nouns as well as actively see what nouns their classmates wrote. My

students were engaged with everyone and not just themselves.

EDIT 610: FINAL PROJECT 8

Diverse Needs of Learners

In every classroom, students will come from different backgrounds, this is why it is

important to understand this concept and address it. When working and learning with people

from a variety of backgrounds and cultures present in the classroom, students gain a more

comprehensive understanding of the subject matter. It also teaches students how to use their own

strengths and points of view to contribute in a diverse working environment. Not every student

will learn in the same way, at the same speed. They all have their own pros and cons of each type

of learning situation. Because I provided the students with different types of learning

experiences, all students will be helped and different learning experiences will be learned.

Students will participate in engaged quizzes, classroom group discussions, LMS response apps

like kahoot to just name some.

Targeted Digital Citizenship

Digital citizenship may be a new concept for third graders; however, I do not think it is

too early to incorporate it. My goal was to have these young students get actively engaged

online, and this was done mainly with SharePoint and listing nouns. I tried to explain to my

students the importance of online tools in the classroom and how it can be worked in a positive

way. I also need to teach them the possible negative things about the internet, and that it is very

important to be smart online. Therefore, I had them go home and have their parents sign a waiver

with permission. They need to start getting introduced to it with how much they will be using it

in the coming years of middle and high school.

Conclusion
EDIT 610: FINAL PROJECT 9

In conclusion, I do not think there was anything particularly wrong in the original lesson

plan. However I think I made some significant and positive changes with the incorporation of

technology. I used online websites and SharePoint documents, online apps, iPad and tablets. I

used the ASSURE model to plan my lesson for these third grade students. The ASSURE model

is my favorite as it is simple and easy to follow. It allows students to give you feedback and for

you to make necessary changes in future lessons.

Kahoot!

Kahoot was given out to the students to see if they learned the material. I chose this app because

it is a fun interactive way to quiz the students. I will determine the understanding and knowledge

of the students based on their test score.

Quizlet

Quizlet is a fun interactive way to let students make flash cards, play games, and test themselves.

Instead of me making this for them, they make it themselves which they will enjoy. There is no

pressure on the games and quizzes as they play it themselves and go at their own pace. Being

that they are still very young, I thought it was important to incorporate this tool.
