Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
Chapter I: The descent down the rabbit hole
The White Rabbit. The first of John Tenniel's
illustrations for this work, it appears in the first chapter. It all starts when Alicia finds herself sitting in a tree outdoors, bored, next to her sister. Her sister was reading a book "without illustrations or dialogues", which causes Alicia to ramble out of boredom. Suddenly, a white rabbit10 dressed in a jacket and vest appears next to her, running muttering that he is late, looking at her pocket watch. Alicia is curious about him and decides to follow him and even enter her burrow. The burrow turns out to be a vertical tunnel deeper than expected, which suddenly becomes a vertical well with no handholds, where Alice falls for a long period of time remembering her cat, things she had learned at school and wondering If one day I would reach the ground. On the way, Alicia wonders if the tunnel will take her to the "unfriendly", a term that she confuses with "the antipodes". At the end of her fall, and without having hurt herself, Alicia enters a world of absurdities and logical paradoxes. With the rabbit missing, Alice finds a small bottle, the first of several that she will find in her adventure, with a label that says "DRINK ME", which Alice does, attracted by her curiosity. The potion shrinks Alicia to ten inches tall. Right away, Alice tries to open a small door to continue exploring the new world. Through the door there is a glimpse of an attractive garden, but the key that opens the door is on a table that Alice cannot reach, due to her new height. The girl then tries to regain her original height, eating a cake that she finds labeled "EAT ME".
