THE TEACHER AND SCHOOL CURRICULUM

1. What is the difference between Education and training?


Education is the process of facilitating learning, or acquiring knowledge,
principles, morality, beliefs, and behavior. It is also about gaining theoretical
knowledge in the classroom or any institution. On the other hand, training,
refers to an act of inculcating specific skills in a person.

2. Is it necessary for teacher to learn about school curriculum? Why?


Definitely yes, it is fundamental for teachers to learn about school curriculum
for them to be able to help students learn easily and connect with sources of
information and knowledge that allows them to explore ideas. A school
curriculum will always help the teacher to adjust in the environment better.
I believe that the most important person in the curriculum implementation
process is the teacher. With their knowledge, experiences and competencies,
teachers are central to any curriculum development effort. A better teachers
support better learning because they are most knowledgeable about the
practice of teaching and are responsible for introducing the curriculum in the
classroom.

3. What phase of the curriculum process do you find very important as a


teacher? Why?
All phases of the curriculum process are essential however, from my
standpoint, the curriculum planning is way more important than the rest since
in this phase, some of the questions that need to be addressed to define the
issue is being explored.
So, therefore it includes ways to identify gaps between knowledge and
practice; trends emerging from the data; a process to prioritize needs; and
identification of the characteristics of the target audience which I think the
most essential things to be considered in the curriculum process.

4. What specific roles do play as a curricularist?


 knows the curriculum. The teacher as a learner starts with knowing about the
curriculum, the subject matter or the content. (KNOWER)
 writes the curriculum. A classroom teacher takes record of knowledge
concepts, subject matter or content. These need to be written or preserved. The
teacher writes books, modules, laboratory manuals, instructional guides, and
reference materials in paper or electronic medias a curriculum writer or reviewer.
(WRITER)
 plans the curriculum. A good curriculum has to be planned. It is the role of the
teacher to make a yearly, monthly or daily plan of the curriculum. This
will serve as a guide in the implementation of the curriculum
(PLANNER)
 initiates the curriculum. In cases where the curriculum is recommended to the
schools from DepEd, CHED, TESDA, UNESC0, UNICEF or other educational
agencies for improvement of quality education, the teacher is obliged to
implement it (INITIATOR)
 innovates the curriculum. Creativity and innovation are hallmarks of an
excellent teacher. A curriculum is always dynamic; hence it keeps on changing.
From the content, strategies, ways of doing, blocks of time, way of
evaluating, kinds of students and skills of teachers, one cannot find a single
eternal curriculum that would perpetually fit. A good teacher, therefore, innovates
the curriculum and thus becomes a curriculum innovator. (INNOVATOR)
 implements the curriculum. It is this role where the teacher becomes
the curriculum implementor. An implementor gives life to the curriculum plan.
The teacher is at the height of an engagement with the learners, with
support materials in order to achieve the desired outcome.
(IMPLEMENTOR)
 evaluates the curriculum. How can one determine if the desired learning
outcomes have been achieved? Is the curriculum working? Does it
bring the desired results? What do outcomes reveal? Are the learners
achieving? Are there some practices that should be modified? Should
the curriculum be modified, terminated or continued? These are some few
questions that need the help of a curriculum evaluator. That person is
the teacher

5. How will the thinking of Abraham Maslow influence your teaching in the
future?
For me, the thinking of Abraham Maslow influences teaching practice in the
future in a way that in his theory it suggested that before individuals meet
their full potential, they need to satisfy the series of needs and thus, this made
me realize that students must be trained properly in their early level of
studying.
As a future educator knows my student’s capacity ang try to enhance it until
they further realize what potential really possessed.

6. No learners left behind in reading, writing and arithmetic.

It is subject-centered design, that focuses on the content of the curriculum. It


also, some variation which are focused on the individual subjects, specific
discipline, and a combination of subjects.
7. Differentiated instruction should be utilized for different ability of the
learners.
Teachers know better than anyone that students each have their own unique
gifts and challenges; interests, aptitudes and learning styles. Differentiated
instruction is the practice of developing an understanding of how each student
learns best, and then tailoring instruction to meet students’ individual needs.
Teaching this way gives students choice and flexibility in how they learn, and
helps teachers personalize learning.

8. Do you think curriculum change is inevitable?

For me its yes, because if the world is evolving and the society is changing
therefore the curriculum is change also and it is an inevitable. And it states
that one of the characteristics of curriculum is its being dynamic. Societal
development and knowledge revolution come so fast that the need to address
the changing condition requires new curriculum design.

9. Differentiate between Cooperative learning, independent learning, and


competitive activities?

When we say cooperative learning, it is allowing the students to work


together. Students are guided to learn on their own find solution to their
problem. Democratic process is encouraged, and each of one contributes to
the success of learning. Students learn from each other in a way. While,
independent learning is allowed learners to develop personal responsibility.
The degree of independence to learn, how to learn is enhanced. Competitive
activities, where students will test their competencies against another in a
healthy manner, allow learners to perform their maximum.

10. What happens when a graduate from teacher education program lacks the
competencies/standards of a beginning teacher?
For me, if a teacher education program graduate lacks the
competencies/standards of a beginning teacher, if he/she enter the teaching
world, he can't perform his duties effectively and with respect to the standard
of working field. 
I do believe that a teachers' competencies affect their values, behaviors,
communication, aims and practices in school and also, they support
professional development and curricular studies. Thus, the discussion on
teachers' competencies to improve the teaching-learning process in school is
of great importance.
