CHRISTOLOGY
• The study of Jesus Christ
and His provision of
salvation for a lost humanity
• Christ is Christianity.
Without Him, Christianity has
no meaning.
Jesus Christ is
the THEME of Scripture
Old Testament
Humanity falls into sin; they need a savior
God promises that David’s family will rule forever
The Prophets declare that a Messiah is coming

New Testament
The Gospels tell of His life and death
His message is spread through the Book of Acts
Churches are established in His name
Revelation tells us that He’s coming again

Jesus can be seen throughout all of scripture, whether

in the shadows waiting for the right time to be
revealed or clearly in the New Testament.

Jesus is the centerpiece of our faith!

The Nature of Christ
Without losing his divine
nature, the Son of God
assumed a human nature.
Christ was at all times one
Divine Person with two
natures.
Christians call this the
hypostatic union.
HYPOSTATIC UNION
The term “hypostatic” comes from
the Greek word
‘υποστασιs
“hypostasis” and means
“substantial nature, essence,
actual being, reality” Heb. 1:3
states that Christ is “an exact
representation of his (= God’s)
real being.”
Council of Chalcedon in 451 AD
declares that Jesus is
perfect both in His divinity and
in His humanity,
truly God and truly Man…
One divine person (hypostasis)
With two natures (physis)…
