1. What is difference of Patient Medication Adherence and Patient Medication Compliance?

When we say patient medication compliance, it’s a behavior of a patient that pertains to him or
her following the instructions of his or her physician regarding the prescribed medications.
There is a given set of instructions that the patient is following/complying based o what the
doctor said. On the other hand, when we say patient medication adherence is not just the
patient following the instruction given by the doctor but it includes as well the patient changing
his or her lifestyle, following the instructions of the doctor in a positive manner and having a
proactive behavior in t dealing with his or her medications. This involves taking their drugs at
the right time, avoiding such things, foods, and practices that are prohibited by his or her
physician.
2. As a Pharmacist during this CoViD-19 Pandemic, how can you help the patients in their
Medication Adherence thru Patient Counseling?

Patient counselling is a very great way to educate patients on medication adherence. As

a pharmacist during this Covid-19 pandemic, I believe that considering the following in the
patient counselling sessions would be great; first I believe that it is important to build a
connection to the patients, this will enable a fruitful conversation between the pharmacist and
the patient for they will become comfortable with each other; second, I think it would be also
great to give the patient a written guide on taking medications to improve compliance as well
as his or her adherence to the medications; SMART must also be considered, I believe that all
the advises, instructions, suggestions and knowledge that the pharmacist must tell or instruct
the patient must be specific , measurable, attainable, realistic and time-bound; lastly, I think it
would be great to always observe the proper patient counselling practice which may involve
eye contact, body language, building connection, tone, and many more.

1. Review and give your understandings of the Advantages and Disadvantages of Generic Medicines in
Medication Adherence.
Generic medicines are drugs that are usually known as a drug with the chemical name of what
the particular drug is, its name is also the name that is locally and internationally accepted in the
market. Usually, it has lower price when compared to the branded ones. In connection with medication
adherence, generic medicines are just as effective as the branded ones, therefore patents can chose to
buy it for its lower price, aside from that, patients can save a lot of money and with that, it can improve
their medication adherence. For instance, a patient who has a lot of expenses aside from his or her
medication would have a greater chance of adhering to his or her medications if the medications can be
bought in a very much lower price. On the other hand, generic medications may also have disadvantages
on medical adherence of the people. As said that generic medicines are sold in a much lower price,
sometimes the appearance of the actual drug is different, therefore, people might fight it a little bit
awkward to take the drugs and adhere with them. Also, in some patients, there have been reports
saying that patients experience side effects from switching taking their drug from the branded to the
generic ones, therefore, it may affect the medication adherence.
