Person-Centered Care in Nursing

Nursing is sensitive to cultural differences, beliefs and customs alongside personal

attributes such as humility. The element of special human attribute of humility reflects the

pertinent societal ideals. It is possible to work as a nurse in a variety of settings, including

hospitals and homes for the elderly. When taking care of patients, nurses have to ask the patients

questions to figure out what type of illness the patients are suffering from (Kelsall-Knight, 2022).

Such questions should be asked with humility or while ensuring the question is culturally

sensitive not to offend the patient.

Humility is an important virtue in nursing, especially when dealing with elderly patients.

The questions asked by a nurse should show humility to allow the patient to comply with the

questions and answer them truthfully. One such question to ask a patient is, “how severe is your

illness?” This question gives the patient a sense of feeling safe and cared for by the nurse. The

nurse is also able to connect with the patient and build a bond between them (Zinan, 2021).

Therefore, it would be easy to understand the symptoms and severity of the illness and

understand the type of ailment the patient is facing to prescribe the appropriate prescription.

When this type of question is asked, especially by a new nurse, it also shows the patient the

amount of confidence the nurse has in her abilities.

In conclusion, humility and other virtues play a big role in nursing. A nurse's view of

themselves and their patients is formed and calibrated by humility, which has a favorable effect

on how they approach providing medical care. Their clinical care delivery, learning and

curiosity, enthusiasm for helping others, and interactions with coworkers and patients are all

examples of areas where they should serve humility.
